Brief History
Bursa Uludağ University Special Education Department became active in 2010-2011 by taking students to the Department of Education of the Mentally Handicapped. The mission of the department is to provide competency based teacher training. Since the teacher training committee of higher education maintained the traditional teacher training perspective, courses in the program organized as Pedagogy, specializing on special education and general information. Courses only specializing on special education, assessment, teaching and applied behavioral analysis would be developed taking into to consideration the competencies of special education teachers. These courses stress competencies which address understanding of handicapped, determining educational needs of handicapped children, adapting school program and developing instructional plans according to the students’ needs. Specific emphasis is going to be given to the student teaching in the classes and schools of the Ministry of National Education.
Candidates graduating from the department qualify for a B.A. degree in Special Education teaching certificate. Graduate of the department will have job opportunities, including academic positions in departments of Special Education; work in the public and private schools of the Ministry of National Education and provide consultancy for the children with learning difficulties.
We encourage our at least third year students to provide special education services under the control of our department staff to the students with disabilities who are in need of special education.

Qualification Awarded
This department offers 240 ECTS credits in the field of Special. Graduates who successfully completed the program with established qualifications shall have a bachelor degree in Special Education.

Candidates must have high school diploma and an eligible score from the University Entrance Exam.

Profile of The Programme
Our department was established in 2010-2011 within the Department of Special Education. Undergraduate and graduate programs are carried out. The department currently has 1 professor, 5 doctor lecturers, 1 lecturer doctor, 2 research assistant doctors and 1 lecturer who is continuing his doctorate education.

1. To demonstrate knowledge of development patterns in learners with developmental delays.
2. To demonstrate the ability to assess with using various educational (academic and non academic) assessment instruments which are developed by her or him in learners with developmental delays.
3. To demonstrate the ability to select, design and modify specialized curricula for varying degrees of developmental delays in learners.
4. To demonstrate the ability to select, plan and apply teaching procedures according to teaching tasks of program for learners with developmental delays.
5. To utilize instructional strategies to facilitate in learners with developmental delays.
6. To effectively utilize and design individualized educational and instructional plans and materials according to the needs of learners with developmental delays.
7. To demonstrate ability to utilize educational setting in which delivery of services, placement procedures, policy and approaches to the learners with developmental delays.
8. To demonstrate to design and utilize at least five academic and nonacademic instructional plans according to the needs of learners with developmental delays in schools of ministry of education for learners with developmental delays.
9. To demonstrate ability to select and design appropriate program for parents to train their children with developmental delays.
10. To accept responsibilities of special education teacher profession and will make a commitment to improve appropriate services according to needs of learners of developmental delays.
11. To demonstrate to utilize and plan procedures to have learners to engage to the instructions and to change their inappropriate behavior to engage to the instruction.
12. To demonstrate knowledge of differences of scientific approaches which explains deviances among learners and adequate and inadequate explanation of behavior need for research with learners developmental delays.
13. To identify all aspects of teaching profession and educational sciences and Turkish national education system and school management
14. To grasp the characteristics of students ' development and to grasp the use of different approaches to learning in the classroom.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates can be employed as special education teachers, directors, planners and advisors in both public and private schools under the Ministry of National Education.

Access to Further Studies
Upon successful completion of undergraduate degree, candidate can study in postgraduate program if s/he has eligible ALES exam score and has sufficient knowledge of a foreign language.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
A variety of assessment methods such as mid-term(s), assignment(s), exercise(s), project(s), practice(s), and a final exam are implemented in the program. Assessment methods may include classical test(s), multiple-choice test(s), homework(s), performance evaluation(s), and product evaluation(s). In order to graduate from the program, cumulative GPA must be minimum 2.00. A course grade is constituted by evaluating the above stated elements and given by using letters. To succeed in a course, students must get at least 40 points from the final exam and have at least 50 points average. Students who get AA, AA, BA, BB, CB and CC are considered successful. DC and DD are notes that conditionally successful. Students have to attend 70% in theoretical, 80% of practical sessions of courses.

Graduation Requirements
To complete the bachelor´s degree in Special Education program the students must successfully complete the required and elective courses (total 240 ECTS) and maintain the minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0/4.0

Facilities
The department is currently holds 1 professor, 7 teaching assistant and 2 research assistant . University Central library and faculty’s library are open to both students and faculty members’ use.
