General Description
The Department of Chemistry was established in 1983 within the Faculty of Science and Letters at Bursa Uludağ University, with the aim of providing education and research in five separate branches: Analytical, Inorganic, Physical Chemistry, Organic, and Biochemistry. The department completed its first year in the 1983-1984 academic year in the Faculty of Education building in Yıldırım district of Bursa. In the 1984-1985 academic year, the department moved to its current building in the Görükle campus of Bursa Uludağ University, comprising blocks A and B, where it continues its educational and research activities. As of the 2017-2018 academic year, it continues its education, teaching, and research activities on the 3rd floor of the Science Departments building in the Faculty of Science and Letters. The department has 13 Professors, 11 Associate Professors, 1 Research Assistant with a PhD, 4 Research Assistants, and 1 Chemist in the Analytical, Inorganic, Physical Chemistry, Organic, and Biochemistry branches.
This program is part of the first-stage degree system in Chemistry, offering 240 ECTS credits. Upon successful completion of the program and fulfillment of program requirements, a Bachelor´s degree in Chemistry is awarded.

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have achieved a sufficient score on the Higher Education Institutions Examination.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To obtain a Bachelor´s degree in Chemistry, students must successfully complete all compulsory and elective courses totaling 240 ECTS credits and achieve a minimum overall grade point average of 2.0 out of 4.00.

Profile of The Programme
The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry program consists of a one-year English preparatory program followed by a four-year curriculum. The first year includes general courses (such as Computer Science, Physics, General Chemistry, and Mathematics) to bring students from different educational levels to the same level. The second and third years are structured to allow students to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the fundamental branches of chemistry (Analytical, Inorganic, Physical Chemistry, Organic, and Biochemistry).

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates have job opportunities in the private sector as quality control specialists or researchers in industrial organizations such as petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, iron and steel, automotive, food, textiles, and mining; those with pedagogical training can work as teachers in the private and public sectors, and as academics in institutes and faculties.

Access to Further Studies
Candidates who successfully complete their undergraduate education can enroll in postgraduate education programs provided they meet the required level of ALES exam and foreign language proficiency (documented with TOEFL, IELTS, YDS, YÖKDİL, E/TEP, etc. exams).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Attendance is compulsory. This requirement is at least 70% for theoretical courses and at least 80% for practical courses. Students who meet the attendance requirement are eligible to take the final exam. Students are subject to at least one midterm exam and one final exam for each course. The midterm exam contributes 40% to the final grade, while the final exam contributes 60%. Scores obtained from assignments, lab exams, quizzes, etc., may also be considered as midterm grades. All exams are graded out of 100 points. To pass a course, students must obtain at least 50 points on the final exam. Students who receive one of the letter grades AA, BA, BB, CB, and CC in a course are considered to have passed that course. However, if the student´s overall weighted grade point average is at least 2.0, DC and DD grades are also considered conditionally passing grades.

Graduation Requirements
To complete the program, it is mandatory to pass the core and optional courses with 240 ECTS and achieve a minimum cumulative GPA scores of at least of 2.00 over 4.00 point.

Our department provides educational services with 13 Professors, 11 Associate Professors, 1 PhD Research Assistant, 4 Research Assistants, and 1 chemist. The department has 4 classrooms, each equipped with air conditioning and projection devices. The department has active sub-departments of Inorganic, Analytical, Organic, Biochemistry, and Physical Chemistry, each with its own student and research laboratories. In addition, there are 2 chemistry laboratories (general chemistry student laboratories) in the central classroom building. Our department is equipped with the following equipment for characterizing chemical substances: GC-MS, GC-MS/MS, GC-FID, HPLC-DAD, FT-IR, FAAS, GFAAS, UV-VIS, contact angle measuring device, and surface plasma resonance (SPR) spectrometer.
