Brief History
The Department of Turkish Language and Literature of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, which started education in the 1990-1991 academic year, produced its first graduates in 1994. The department provides education with 8 professors, 2 associate professors, 5 assistant professors, 1 research assistant doctor, 1 lecturer and 2 research assistants.

Qualification Awarded
This department is subject to a total of 240 ECTS system in the field of Turkish Language and Literature Science in higher education. When the program is successfully completed and the program qualifications are met, a doctorate degree in Turkish Language and Literature Science is awarded.

Specific Admission Requirements
For doctoral education, candidates must have a master´s degree and have received a sufficient score from the exam conducted by the Institute.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
In order to obtain a PhD degree in Turkish Language and Literature, students must successfully complete all compulsory and elective courses in the program and the thesis defense exam.

Profile of The Programme
To adopt basic concepts and terms related to Turkish language and literature, methodology of the field. To do research on Turkish Language and Literature. To teach the knowledge required to formulate, analyze and utilize data concerning the field.

8.1
Key Learning Outcomes
1. The aim of our departmental program is to bring the students in Turkish language and literature texts from the beginning till today by analyzing them in literary and philological contexts, teach them the indispensability of these within the formation and development of Turkish culture in academic level; educate scientists, professionals, and teachers the country needs within the field of Turkish language and literature.
2. The ability to analyze, interpret and evaluate information concerning the field.
3. The transmission of Turkish language and literature from a historical and geographical perspective is placed within one of the main objectives of this program.
4. To be able to take part in various projects and produce and contribute knowledge to such.
5. To be able to utilize the knowledge acquired inthe field of specialization for taking decisions, implementing them, and defining attitudes.
6. To be able to present the information concerning the field making use of technical aids (computers, projection equipment etc.).
7. The ability to report and present the data produced or collected.
8. To be able to establish a working communication with other individuals in the field.
9. The command of a foreign language at least would enable one to follow the developments in one's field of specialization and to communicate with colleagues.
10. To be able to use information and communications technologies and software at the minimum level of proficiency of Advanced European Computer Literacy License, as required in the field of specialization.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Our graduates can work as a teacher in elementary and high schools appertaining to Ministry of Education. Also, they work as a university lecturer in their academic career or Turkish language instructors in universities. Apart from that, they can work in Ministry of Culture, TRT (Turkish Government´s Broadcasting Channel), press and information offices, publishing houses, various ministries, education and cultural institutions abroad, and archives.

Access to Further Studies
The requirement is to be a PhD graduate of the Turkish Language and Literature Department and to have a sufficient score from the ALES and ÜDS exams.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
The final exam of a course is held at the end of the semester in which the course is completed. The exam format (written, written-oral or practical) is determined by the responsible faculty member. The impact rate of the final exam must be at least 60%. The impact rate of make-up and final exams must be equal.

Graduation Requirements
In order to successfully complete the program, it is necessary to pass the compulsory and elective courses, seminar courses, specialization courses to be taken each semester, and the thesis study, provided that a minimum of 240 ECTS credits are completed in the program.

Facilities
The academic staff of our department consists of 8 professors, 2 associate professors, 5 assistant professors, 1 lecturer, 3 research assistants. Our education period consists of 4 years / 8 semesters. Doctoral education is carried out full-time. There are 6 classrooms in the department.
