General Description
Foreign Language Education Department French Teaching program, was established to meet the need of French teachers within the body of Bursa Teachers’ High Shool. In 1982, the program took part in the frame of restucture within the body of Uludağ University Education Faculty. The program at the department maintained undergraduate program until 1998, and as of 1998-1999 academic year, the program prepared by YÖK has been implemented. Since 1990-1991 academic year, preparatory classes have been implemented, Post-graduate program opened three times during the academic year 1992-1998 at our department. At our program subsisting at Görükle Campus since 1996, the post-graduate program has been developed and updated since 2000.
“French for Special Field in the frame of the European Union Regularization” went in effect in 2002 at our department in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry of France, French Embassy in Ankara, and İstanbul French Language and Culture Institute. Vocational language classes are conducted in the fields of law, economics and business administration ant they are aimed at our university’s students and executive and technical personnel working for the private sector.
The program offers first cycle (bachelor’s) degree with 240 ECTS in the field of French Language Teaching, one of the branches within the general field of “Teacher Training and Educational Sciences” in the structure of the scientific organization of Higher Education System.
Those who have completed the program successfully by gaining its qualifications can hold bachelor’s degree in the field of French Language Teaching (with the title of “French Teacher”)
In addition to program’s degree, candidates may hold short cycle certificate degree (with 50 ECTS) and second program degree (with 88 ECTS) in French language Teaching.

Candidates must have high school diploma and an eligible score from the University Entrance Exam.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To obtain bachelor´s degree in French Language Education program the students must successfully complete the required and elective courses (total 240 ECTS) and maintain the minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0/4.0

Profile of The Programme
To educate French teachers who are qualified, creative, and aware of the responsibility about community service. Equipped with the French language and language teaching methods, have internalized the values of the contemporary knowledge society, have professional competence and sensation, have advanced communicational skills, have analytic and critical thinking, can produce and apply knowledge about teaching, constantly improve themselves and follow innovations, make basic and applied researches about the field, behave appropriately to human rights and vocational ethical values.
The program carries out the activities as,
Besides educating teachers, the program also does theoretical and applied scientific research with its privileged academic staff and physical infrastructure
Holding international Formation seminars for the future teachers, present high school and private school teachers to improve their international knowledge and methods
Offering language teaching programs that the society needs
Holding symposiums and congresses in the fields of literature, translation and language teaching at a national and international level.
Since 2005, the program has sustained mobility by making agreements with most of the universities in Europe on the basis of French Language Teaching as part of Erasmus student and academic member exchange program.

Access to Further Studies
Those who have successfully completed the program can attend third cycle programs in the field of French Language Teaching by fulfilling the requirements that obtaining the predetermined scores in Selection Examination for Academic Personnel and Graduate Studies and recognized Language Proficiency Examinations.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
A variety of assessment methods such as mid-term(s), assignment(s), exercise(s), project(s), practice(s), and a final exam are implemented in the program. Assessment methods may include classical test(s), multiple-choice test(s), homework(s), performance evaluation(s), and product evaluation(s). In order to graduate from the program, cumulative GPA must be minimum 2.00. A course grade is constituted by evaluating the above stated elements and given by using letters. To succeed in a course, students must get at least 50 points from the final exam and have at least 50 points average. Students who get AA, AA, BA, BB, CB and CC are considered successful. DC and DD are notes that conditionally successful. Students have to attend 70% in theoretical, 80% of practical sessions of courses.

As well as language classes supported with multimedia and equipped with projections and interactive whiteboards, there are language laboratories including various technological devices and software. Besides these, an opulent library exists in the department.
University Central library and faculty’s library are open to both students and faculty members’ use.
