Brief History
Department of Music Education was founded in 1981 as Bursa Higher Teachers’ School Music Department and renamed as Faculty of Education Music Education Department in 1982 in accordance with the Higher Education Law number 2547. The Department, which initially provided service at 152 Evler Campus of the university was reunited with Art Education Department under the name of Fine Arts Education Department and was named as Music Education Programme within the scope of reconstruction practices for Faculties of Education that the Council of Higher Education put into effect in 1998.
Music Education Programme moved into its new building which was specially designed and built in Görükle Campus in 2007. The new building was named as “Musiki Muallim Mektebi–1924” by the Uludağ University Senate in memoration of the first institution established in Ankara in 1924 to educate music teachers in our country. The Music Education Programme ranks 4th in Turkey with respect to the order of establishment and has been providing education since 1981. It has 24 dynamic academic personnel composed of 4 Professor, 4 Associate Professor, 3 Assistant Professors, 11 Instructors, 1 Research Assistants. Scientific and artistic activities take place at national and international level, our students study in Italy, Hungary, and Germany as part of the Erasmus Student Exchange Programme

Qualification Awarded
This department offers 240 ECTS credits courses in the field of Music Education. Graduates who successfully completed the program with established qualifications shall have a bachelor degree in Music Education.

Specific Admission Requirements
Candidates must have high school diploma and an eligible score from the University Entrance Exam. The candidates that have this qualification are accepted to Special Entrance Examination. The exam consists of the areas of Musical Hearing, Voice and Musical Instrument. The quota is 40 students. The ones in the actual list enroll in the school. The substitutes are called out instead of the ones that have not enrolled in

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To obtain bachelor´s degree in Music Education program the students must successfully complete the required and elective courses (total 240 ECTS) and maintain the minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0/4.0

Profile of The Programme
Music Teaching education is provided in the Music Education Programme. The Programme is defined by YÖK (Council of Higher Education) and applied in all of the Faculties of Education. Programme does not have evening education.
It is aimed that the graduates are distinguished candidate teachers who are qualified in Music Education knowledge, well-educated in student development and learning, competent in Music Teaching Methods and Techniques, equipped with the skills of planning and application of education activities. Also, they are expected to perform and create music, contribute to the development of music culture at national and universal level, think analytically and critically.
In this context, as part of the Music Education bachelor degree, concerts, scientific meetings, workshops are organized. Candidate teachers are asked to participate in these activities individually, in small groups and communities. This development is strengthened and reinforced by means of communicating with other universities in and out of the country.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates can be employed as music education teachers in both public and private schools under the Ministry of National Education. There are many Music Teachers who work at pre-school education institutions on contract. In addition, they have opportunities like giving private lessons and trading.

Access to Further Studies
Upon successful completion of undergraduate degree, candidate can study in postgraduate program if s/he has eligible ALES exam score and has sufficient knowledge of a foreign language.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
A variety of assessment methods such as mid-term(s), assignment(s), exercise(s), project(s), practice(s), and a final exam are implemented in the program. Assessment methods may include classical test(s), multiple-choice test(s), homework(s), performance evaluation(s), and product evaluation(s). In order to graduate from the program, cumulative GPA must be minimum 2.00. A course grade is constituted by evaluating the above stated elements and given by using letters. To succeed in a course, students must get at least 40 points from the final exam and have at least 50 points average. Students who get AA, AA, BA, BB, CB and CC are considered successful. DC and DD are notes that conditionally successful.

Facilities
Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Education, Fine Arts Education Department Music Education Programme is one of the most prominent institutions of our country with an experience and background of over 30 years .It has been functioning in its own original building which includes instrument practice rooms, classes for individual lessons, offices, concert hall, instrument repair and maintenance studio, and rich office stocks. The education offered by a qualified academic staff is known and appreciated by public opinion. Also, students have the opportunities like studying abroad as part of the Erasmus Exchange Programme; completing the 4-year programme in 3-3.5 years by taking courses from upper term as per the academic standing, receiving certificates of the fields they are interested in by means of Sub-branch Education and again receiving a Second Diploma by choosing a second branch they are interested in.
University Central library and faculty’s library are open to both students and faculty members’ use.
