General Description

Brief History
The department of classroom education, whose foundations date back to the School of Education, which was established in 1982, continues its education with 10 lecturers, 4 lecturers, 1 research assistant and 1 project assistant.
In the Department of Classroom Education, students are provided with a four-year undergraduate education that includes general culture, field education and teaching profession knowledge and skills. Teaching profession training practices are carried out with Teaching Practice I and II courses in the 7th and 8th semesters in primary schools determined by the National Education Directorates within the framework of the cooperation of the Ministry of National Education and YÖK.

Qualification Awarded
The department offers 240 ECTS credits in the field of Primary Education. Graduates who successfully completed the program with established qualifications shall have a bachelor degree in Primary Education program.

Specific Admission Requirements
Candidates must have high school diploma and an eligible score from the University Entrance Exam.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To obtain bachelor´s degree in Primary Education program the students must successfully complete the required and elective courses (total 240 ECTS) and maintain the minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0/4.0

Profile of The Programme
Training primary class teachers who are steeped in the values of the information society, use scientific methods that solve the problems of teaching and teacher training and become well-trained and equipped at national and international level,
2. Contributing to the development class teaching by producing knowledge in the their field and passing them into practice,
3. Encouraging scientific and social activities which are performed with participation of faculty members and by students and increasing them,
4. Creating a learning environment that is dominated by discussion, inquiry, interaction and ensuring its continuity,
5. Ensuring the undergraduate courses to be compatible with the developments of the related literature,
6. Ensuring the graduates to be proud of being a member of the department.

1. By considering different styles of learning, to organize student centered teaching environment, and to encourage effective student involvement in all stages of teaching
2. To prepare group work and individual activities to advance his student’s critical and creative thinking, as well as their interpretational and evolutional skills
3. In order to improve students’ ability for critical thinking, to develop activities which aims for advancing student’s curiosity, data collection, data analysis and interpretation skills
4. To provide active involvement for students to the activities that would require them to apply high level of thinking and theorizing.
5. To adjusts his teaching technique to include the needs of special education students thus providing a richer teaching environment for the all.
6. To prepare evaluation tools by not only getting input from the students, but also taking into consideration that his evaluation meets the aims and gains of the lectures and it is progress based
7. By doing self evaluation, to involve professional development and in-service training actively and voluntarily
8. To organize exhibitions to present his students artistic creativity in and out of the schools, organize activities to help the students to internalize importance of participating as well as observing arts
9. In order for his students to have a proficiency in Turkish language, to provide them with an ability to understand and interpret written, oral and visual literary products
10. To organize activities to improve students’ awareness toward the environment and educate them to be a conscious of the need to protect their natural environment
11. To organize student groups for performing arts and sports. To organize events for the students to present their performances in sports and arts
12. To follow the recent developments in his field and to apply them into his teaching.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates can be employed as primary education teachers in both public and private schools under the Ministry of National Education.

Access to Further Studies
Upon successful completion of undergraduate degree, candidate can study in postgraduate program if s/he has eligible ALES exam score and has sufficient knowledge of a foreign language.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
A variety of assessment methods such as mid-term(s), assignment(s), exercise(s), project(s), practice(s), and a final exam are implemented in the program. Assessment methods may include classical test(s), multiple-choice test(s), homework(s), performance evaluation(s), and product evaluation(s). In order to graduate from the program, cumulative GPA must be minimum 2.00. A course grade is constituted by evaluating the above stated elements and given by using letters. To succeed in a course, students must get at least 40 points from the final exam and have at least 50 points average. Students who get AA, AA, BA, BB, CB and CC are considered successful. DC and DD are notes that conditionally successful. Students have to attend 70% in theoretical, 80% of practical sessions of courses.

Facilities
Department of Classroom Teaching carried out in technically equipped classrooms and laboratories with training and education activities. In this department 12 units with 10 units of computers and printers are available to the faculty members to use for educational and academic activities.
Elementary Education Department has classrooms, laboratories, and also computers are available to students in the corridors. There are 3 computers in the faculty lab that are available to students outside class hours.
University Central library and faculty’s library are open to both students and faculty members’ use.
