General Description
The Department of Philosophy at Bursa Uludag University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, was established in 1990. The Department aims to provide students with a critical and systematic philosophical perspective by introducing the fundamental problem areas of philosophy from past to present on the basis of the history of philosophy. The Department of Philosophy at Bursa Uludag University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, offers undergraduate (first degree) programs (since 1990), thesis-based master´s programs (since 1990) and doctoral programs (since 2004) with 6 professors, 2 associate professors, 3 assistant professors, and 2 research assistants with doctorates.
The Department of Philosophy admits students in accordance with the results of the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) administered by the Assessment, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Student placement in the Department is based on the Equal Weight (EA) score type.
In accordance with the regulations of the Council of Higher Education, students who enroll in the Department may attend the English Preparatory Program conducted by the University’s School of Foreign Languages upon request.
From the beginning of their enrollment, students are assigned academic advisors. The Department supports participation in Double Major and Minor programs and actively engages in national and international mobility within the scope of Erasmus+ and Farabi Student Exchange Programs.
In addition, the Department offers a wide range of philosophy courses as General Elective Courses for students enrolled in other academic programs of the University. It is among the preferred departments in Double Major and Minor programs and encourages student participation in philosophical activities through the academic advising of the Philosophy Student Society.
The Department of Philosophy approaches philosophical activity not only as an academic endeavor but also as a field of social responsibility. In addition to its undergraduate and graduate teaching activities and its continued participation in Erasmus+ and Farabi exchange programs, the Department publishes Kaygı: Journal of Philosophy of Bursa Uludag University, which is indexed in ULAKBİM TR Dizin, Philosopher’s Index, Index Islamicus, Index Copernicus, and MLA Bibliography, twice a year. Furthermore, under the umbrella of the “Uludag Philosophy Association (UFED),” the Department organizes academic meetings and seminars and collaborates with various civil society organizations in order to promote philosophy at the societal level.
Department of philosophy depends on the system of first stage degree which consists of 240 ECTS credits in higher education. After the programme has completed and the qualifications of the programme have provided, undergraduate degree of Philosophy is taken.

Specific Admission Requirements
In order to apply for the undergraduate program, candidates must hold a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification and obtain a sufficient score in the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS). Placement in the program is based on the Equal Weight (EA) score type.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To obtain a Bachelor´s degree in Philosophy, students must successfully complete all required and elective courses (totaling 240 ECTS credits) and maintain a GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.00.

Mission: To cultivate critical and independent thinking by addressing philosophical thought in both its historical and contemporary dimensions, to promote academic scholarship, and to position philosophy as a field of social responsibility.
Vision: To become a reputable philosophy program recognized at national and international levels for its high academic standards and its commitment to critical reason and intellectual freedom.
PURPOSES AND OBJECTIVES
PURPOSE 1: To conduct qualified and original philosophical research activities that strengthen the vision of a research university.
Objective 1.1. To increase the number of nationally, internationally, and institutionally funded research projects and qualified publications produced by faculty members.
Objective 1.2. To increase citation rates of articles, books, and book chapters published in nationally and internationally indexed journals and publishers.
Objective 1.3. To organize regular academic development activities in order to train scholars who possess scientific competence, academic ethical values, and a strong research culture in the field of philosophy.
PURPOSE 2: To enhance the quality of education and train qualified graduates with advanced critical and analytical thinking skills.
Objective 2.1. To provide students with systematic knowledge of the history of philosophy and its fundamental problem areas, and to develop their skills in textual analysis, conceptual analysis, and argumentation.
Objective 2.2. To strengthen an inquiry-based, discussion-oriented, and critical approach to teaching.
Objective 2.3. To improve the academic quality and research capacity of graduate programs.
Objective 2.4. To increase the proportion of international students through exchange programs and institutional collaborations in line with internationalization strategies.
Objective 2.5. To update the scope and content of undergraduate philosophy courses in accordance with contemporary philosophical debates.
Objective 2.6. To actively participate in national curriculum development and accreditation processes.
Objective 2.7. To encourage academic, scholarly, and intellectual activities jointly conducted by faculty members and students.
Objective 2.8. To organize activities that strengthen alumni relations and enhance graduates’ sense of institutional belonging.
Objective 2.9. To support faculty development in contemporary philosophical approaches, research methodologies, and pedagogical techniques.
Objective 2.10. To enrich physical and digital learning infrastructures (library resources, seminars, conference opportunities, etc.).

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates who take pedagogical formation have the opportunity to work in high schools and in training centers as Teacher of Group of Philosophy and Psychological Counseling and Guidance in both private and public sectors. Graduates can make academical career by taking second and third cycle programmes. They can also canalize in several job fields as public relations, advertising, advertisement authorship, editorial in written and visual media, criticism conjoint with their personal improvements and in interpretership depending on their foreign language level.

Access to Further Studies
Students who completed successfully the undergraduate education, must have sufficient foreign language knowledge and have to get the required points from the examination “Selection Examination for Academic Personnel and Graduate Studies “(ALES) in order to continue their studies with post-graduate programs such as second and third cycle.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Every student must register for courses at the beginning of the semester. To be eligible to take the final exam, students must attend at least 70% of the classes. Students are required to take at least one midterm exam and a final exam for each course. The midterm exam contributes 40% to the final grade, while the final exam contributes 60%. Exams may also be administered through assignments or seminars. All exams are graded out of 100 points. A minimum score of 50 on the final exam is required. Students who receive a grade of AA, BA, BB, CB, or CC in a course are considered to have passed. DC and DD grades are conditional passing grades. To pass a course with a DC or DD grade, a student must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.0.

Graduation Requirements
In order to complete the program, all the courses which are available (240 ECTS) must be taken successfully and the grade point average must be at least 2.00 over 4.00.
