Uludag Univercity The PhD program of the Institute of Health Sciences, Department of Veterinary Microbiology was first established in 1984. of Veterinary Microbiology-PhD program of Uludag University Graduate School of Health Science is deal with etiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, laboratory diagnosis, antibiotic resistance of bacteria, prophylactic and control principles of animal infectious diseases. Microbiology Department has 4 Professor, 1 assistant professor, 1 postdoc research assistant (PhD) and 1 research assistant. Deparment mandatory courses are Basic Microbiology, Important Bacterial Infections of Domestic Animals, Basic Immunology and Serologic Diagnostic Methods, Epidemiology, Important Bacterial and Viral Infections of Poultry, Specialized Area Course and 12 elective courses are given by academic staff.
Bacterial and fungal infections of animals are diagnosed in Microbiology Deparment routine-Diagnosis Laboratory. The laboratory gives results samples obtained from Clinics of Veterinary Medicine Faculty, from Research and Application Farm of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, from public and from private companies. In molecular microbiology laboratory, molecular diagnosis bacterial and viral diseases of poultry and livestocks are done and also some spesific research projects on Mycoplasma, Salmonella, Staphylococcus, Infectious Bronchitis Virus are being currently conducted.
Those who successfully complete the doctorate program are awarded the title of "Doctor" (Phd) in the field of Veterinary Microbiology.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates from Department of Veterinary Microbiology-doctorate Program of Uludag University Graduate School of Health Science can build a company with their possibility or work as interpereter to comment results of microbial laboratory analyses as responsible doctor. Doctors can apply to faculty of veterinary medicine worldwide as academician. They can work as postgraduate doctor researcher in projects globally and also as microbiology doctor in institute and laboratory related to government or private sector.
10
Access to Further Studies
The entrance into postgraduate doctoral studies is possible for candidates who have successfully earned a Bachelor´s degree, and can provide ALES with a passing grade and meet foreign language qualifications.
11
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
The exams of the courses can be done written, written-oral or applied. In order to take the tests of the postgraduate programs, the attendance of the courses is required to be at least 70% or 80%. The exams are evaluated by over 100points awarded. To be successful, at master with thesis and master without thesis programs, it is required to get at least 70 points out of 100 points; at doctorate and proficiency in art programs it is required to get at least 75 points out of 100 points.
Within the frame of the principals mentioned above, to evaluate the points as letter grades; getting AA, BA, BB, CB and CC at master degree and scientific preparation programs, and AA,BA, BB and CB at doctorate programs are considered successful at the courses.
At postgraduate programs, a student failed at any course can take the exams at the end of the semester even if the course is not opened up the following semester. The student failed at this exam on the ground of absence or not carrying out the preconditions of the lesson repeats the lesson when it is opened up. If the lesson is subtracted or not opened up, an equivalent lesson to it is determined by the suggestion of the concerned head of department and by the decision of the board. Under these circumstances, the student is responsible of the equivalent lesson instead of the lesson that s/he needs to repeat.
The adjustment of the grades of the students who practice upon the national or international student Exchange programs like Erasmus and Farabi are executed by the decision of the board and the decision by the institution directory. These grades are recorded to the academic transcript.
The academic standing of the student is determined at the end of every semester on the term grade point averages and general grade point averages that is calculated on the coefficients given as the letter grades according to the concerned regulations.
Term grade point averages and general grade point averages are calculated by the grade point averages. Grade point average (GPA) is calculated by the division of the total credits to the total out of the multiplication of the course credits and letter grades’s equivalents. GPA is calculated as two digits after the comma.
Both term grade point average and general grade point average are determined by the grades of the courses from AA to FF.
All of the grades are recorded to the academic transcript.
12
Graduation Requirements
Master with thesis program is formed by seven courses providing that they are not less than 21credits and more than 28credits, one seminar at course and dissertation stage, thesis study and thesis exam. Despite not needing scientific preparation program, the student can take up graduation level courses if the supervisor thinks it is needed, and these courses’ credits will not be counted.
Doctorate program is formed by at least eight courses providing that they are not less than 24 credits and more than 30 credits, one seminar at course and dissertation stage, proficiency test, thesis suggestion, thesis study, thesis exam and the publications stated at the regulation’s 44th article’s second subsection.
For the students accepted with bachelor degrees, the program is formed by fourteen courses providing that they are not less than 42 credits and more than 50 credits, one seminar at course and dissertation stage, proficiency test, thesis suggestion, thesis study, thesis exam and the publications stated at the regulation’s 44th article’s second subsection.
The thesis should have one of the following features: novelty to science, developing a new scientific method or applying a known method to a new branch. It should be published as the full text at an international index magazine. The name of the doctorate student may not be the first one. The publication of the candidate who is going to take the argument of the doctorate should be about the doctorate thesis or the branch s/he is doing doctorate

The Veterinary Faculty officially opened its doors to the community of Bursa On the April 14, 1978. Since then, it has developed outstanding research and clinical facilities, and strong reciprocal links with academic peers around the world. The Veterinary Faculty of Bursa into the list of approved establishments in European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE).
Uludag University Faculty of Veteriner Medicine Microbiology Department has 4 professor, 1 assistant profossor, 1 post-doc research assistant and 1 research assistant. Department mandatory courses are general microbiology, special microbiology, immunology and serologic diagnostic methods, epidemiology, infectious disesases of poultry, and department specialized area courses are population health in veterinary medicine, diagnosis and protection of poultry infections and clinical laboratory diagnosis given by department academic staff.
Uludag University, Faculty of Veteriner Medicine, Microbiology Diagnostic Laboratory is responsible for bacteriologic, fungal and serologic diagnosis of infectious diseases of animals by examining the clinical samples from Hospital of Veterinary Medicine, from Research Farm of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and from private animal production companies. Antibiotic resistance profiles of bacteria isolated are also characterized in our diagnostic laboratory. The department, gives comments about protection and control measures to Animal Health and Production Reseach and Application Center of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and also takes a role in organazing the seminars, panels, symposium and congress supported by faculty or other associations.
As research and doctoral thesis level, studies are currently being conducted on conventional and molecular diagnosis of animal infections. In this context, molecular confirmation and genotyping of Salmonella isolates from animals, molecular and bacteriological diagnosis of Mycoplasma agalactia, genetic investigation of mec gene and other virulence factors of Staphylococcus isolates, genotyping and detection Infectious Bronchitis Virus by virus isolation and by different types of PCRs in our Microbiology and Molecular Microbiology laboratory. Laboratory conditions, which have been supported by the research grants of our academic staff, are useful and critically crucial for undergraduate and graduate (PhD) students.
