Integrated Ph.D. in Chemistry
General Description
The Department of Chemistry was founded in 1983. In the Department, around 30 academic staff is present including 13 professors, 7 associate professors, 2 assistant professors and 4 research assistants. PhD program runs for between four to six years. Successful candidates obtain degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemistry. MSc graduates meeting U.Ü Postgraduate Education requirements specified in the regulation can enter one of the PhD programs in Chemistry (e.g. Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Biochemistry). As part of our mission we aim to train postgraduates (PhD) that have the capacity to use project related knowledge and skills effectively for research and to lead the transformation of science and technology for the benefit of society.
The PhD in Chemistry degree is based on 300 ECTS credits of achievement.
Third Cycle
4
Specific Admission Requirements
Requirements:
1- MSc diploma
2- ALES score
3-Evidence of competence in the English language (certificates of UDS, KPDS, TOEFL, IELTS etc.)
5
Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.
6
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
In order to obtain the PhD in Chemistry degree, students must accumulate minimum of 120 ECTS credits from all of the theoretical courses, which should be passed with at least 75 point over 100. Upon completing the courses successfully, students are also subjected to both written and oral examinations in front of a jury. This is called a doctorate proficiency exam and students are required to obtain a pass grade of at least 75 point over 100. In addition, a thesis with 120 ECTS must be prepared and defended in front of the jury.
7
Profile of The Programme
PhD programme takes 4 to 6 years to complete. Generally in the first and second years, students take some compulsory and elective courses (120 ECTS) related to the area. Students who successfully passed the proficiency exams are expected to develop an original PhD project with the help of advisor and to carry out the project-orientated practical works. Students whom prepared and defended their thesis successfully with 120 ECTS get PhD degree. The aim of the PhD program is to provide the following: surveying the literature over a specific field, planning and executing experimental works in a timely manner, compiling and evaluating experimental results, writing and presenting scientific reports.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Attendance to at least 70% of the courses is mandatory. Students are subjected to at least one midterm and one final exam for each course. Both mid-term and final exam contributions are 50%. The marks from homework, practice work, etc. can contribute to the midterm score. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. In order to be successful in one course students must score at least 75 points average at the end of the term. However, it is mandatory to complete the thesis project successfully. Successfully finishing the courses students are subjected to doctorate proficiency exam consisting of oral and written stages. They must score at least 75 points in total. Successful ones are qualified for proposal to an original PhD project (120 ECTS) in the field that must be defended in front of a jury.
12
Graduation Requirements
To complete the program, it is mandatory to pass 120 ECTS courses with at least 75 point over 100, prepare a 120 ECTS doctorate thesis and defend it in front of a jury. From this work, at least one article must be published in SCI or SCI-expanded journals.
