English Language Teaching
General Description
Founded in 1981 under the bodily constitution of Bursa Teacher Training College, the program was reorganized as a department within the organization the Education Faculty of Uludag University in 1982. The courses within the program, which were restructured by the Council of Higher Education in 1998, were updated in 1982. The program with its one year Preparation Class that was put into practice in academic term 1990-1991, was located in the Gorukle Campus since 1996.
The program offers first cycle (bachelor’s) degree with 240 ECTS in the field of English Language Teaching, one of the branches within the general field of “Teacher Training and Educational Sciences” in the structure of the scientific organization of Higher Education System. Those who have completed the program successfully by gaining its qualifications can hold bachelor’s degree in the field of English Language Teaching (with the title of “English Teacher”) In addition to program’s degree, candidates may hold short cycle certificate degree in English language Teaching by completing minor degree program with 120 ECTS.

Specific Admission Requirements
Candidates must have high school diploma and an eligible score from the University Entrance Exam.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To obtain bachelor´s degree in English Language Education program the students must successfully complete the required and elective courses (total 240 ECTS) and maintain the minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0/4.0

- The mission of the Department of English Language Teaching is to educate distinguished teachers who are sincerely faithful to Atatürk’s principles and revolutions, who are conscious of the idea of national and universal identity, who have internalized the moral values of being self-sacrificing, honest, hardworking, tolerant and just, who have adopted the culture of democracy, who are equipped with professional competence and precision, who are in peace with themselves and environment, who are autonomous learners, who have developed the self-evaluation skill, who can produce and construct knowledge, who can learn and teach by doing-experiencing, and who have developed 21st century skills. Additionally, our mission is to prepare individuals to carry out research and teaching activities for the society’s good in the light of scientific knowledge and contemporary and innovative approaches.

To improve and deepen theoretical and applied fund of knowledge in ‘applied linguistics’ and ‘methodology’ based on the masters of art qualifications in the field of ELT

To learn about the stages of data collection, data analysis, and publishing related to their field of study on scientific and ethical grounds

To posses the knowledge about teaching programs, the ability to seek information via modern methods and techniques, as well as the language skills necessary for generating knowledge at the highest level,

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates can be employed as English language teachers in both public and private schools under the Ministry of National Education. In addition to teaching position, graduates can find positions in Private language learning centers Exam preparations centers Foreign Exchange departments of the banks Import and export business sector Translation offices Tourism field Mass media and Foreign trade companies

Access to Further Studies
The graduates might attend a master’s degree program providing that they score ALES examination eligible and have the required foreign language level.

The program performs its function with 5 professors, 3 associate professors, 6 assistant professors, 5 instructors and 1 research assistants in its classrooms some have interactive white boards, and in two multimedia supported language learning classrooms.
University Central library and faculty’s library are open to both students and faculty members’ use.
