General Description

Brief History
Master Programme of the Painting Department was established in 2009-2010 academic year within the Institute of Social Sciences. The Master Programme aims to train artists who produce unique works of art, have advanced application and creativity skills, can conduct independent research and reach new syntheses. The duration of education and training is between 4 semesters and 6 semesters, together with the course and thesis preparation phase according to the relevant graduate education and training regulations.

Qualification Awarded
Master Programme in Painting is under the system of second cycle with its 90-120 ECTS. Students who complete the programme succesfully and provide the learning outcomes gets the master’s degree.

Specific Admission Requirements
In order for the candidates to be accepted to the Master Programme in Painting; 1- have an undergraduate diploma with a score of at least 75 in the 100-point system. 2- In the entrance exam, the weighted average consisting of taking 50% of artistic performance (with the condition at least 75/100 points), 25% of Interview and portfolio assessment, and 25% of graduate success score - must be at least 70/100 points. 3- There is no foreign language requirement. Candidates who will apply for foreign student quotas must provide the application conditions for admission of students from abroad determined by YÖK; and have the types and scores of exams accepted by the Senate of Bursa Uludag University for admission of students from abroad; and be successful in artistic performance (scoring 75/100 points) in the entrance exam. 4-ALES certificate is not an obligation.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To get a Proficiency in Art (Doctorate of Painting degree), the student students are required to complete all compulsory and elective courses in the program by taking at least 70/100 and taking a total of 120 ECTS. At the end of the program, students who defend their thesis in front of a selected jury and successfully present their artistic work are awarded a Master´s degree in Painting.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates who have successfully completed the Master’s Programme in Painting, can share, transfer their knowledge in the field of painting, establish relationships with other disciplines and reflect this on their own production. They can work as independent artists or with galleries; continue their career as academician-artist in university cadres.

Access to Further Studies
Students who have successfully completed their master´s education can apply to Proficiency in Art / Doctorate programs to continue their education.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Students are required to follow at least %70 of theoretical courses, %80 of practical courses for the final exam. At least one final exam are scheduled for each course. Final exam can be done using Written Exam, report presentation, art and/ or design work and/ or project and performance evaluation methods. All exams are assessed out of 100 points. In order to be considered successful in a course, it is required to obtain at least 70 points. Students who receive one of the letter grades AA, BA, BB, CB and CC are considered to have achieved the course. The student has to re-take compulsory courses that he or she has failed. If they fail in elective courses, they can take another elective course instead of that course with the approval of their advisor. Seminar and Advance Topics courses and thesis work are evaluated as successful or unsuccessful without credit according to the local credit system. Master’s Programme in painting consists of a total of 120 ECTS credits, including at least eight courses, seminar, proficiency exam, advance topics course and thesis work, provided that one academic year is not less than 60 ECTS credits. At the graduation stage, students must complete the thesis work in accordance with the spelling rules adopted by the Institute of Social Sciences; present their art works to the selected jury in the number and Quality / originality determined by their advisor, and verbally defend their thesis before the jury.

Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from the Master’s Programme in Painting, is required to pass all the courses in the program and to obtain a total of 120 ECTS; and to successfully complete the solo exhibition and the thesis.

As full time staff there are 1 professor, 4 associate professors, and 1 research assistant in the Painting Department.
In the Painting Department, there are: Basic Art Education Studio, Painting Studios, Perspective and Technical Drawing, Mural Painting, Printmaking, Multimedia, Modeling Studio and Theoretical Classroom.
