Brief History
Bursa Uludag University Institute of Social Sciences founded in 1982 and offers both MA and PH.D degrees. The Institute run by a board consisting of the director, assistant directors and heads of programs and a board of management also consisting of the director, assistant directors and three faculty.
MA program in History has been accepting students since 09.25.1992 in accordance with the stipulations of Higher education Law (no 2547) in the following programs: the Ancient History, the History of Middle Ages, Early Modern History, Modern History, the History of the Turkish Republic and General Turkish History.

Qualification Awarded
MA program in History is subjected to the second cycle grading system. Students need to complete courses worth 60 ECTS credits successfully. Those who completed his/her courses, defended his/her theses and collected 90-120 ECTS has been awarded MA degree in History.

Specific Admission Requirements
1-BA degree in certain areas 2- Having at least 55 in general graduate exam (ALES-SÖZ 55).

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Firstly candidates have to complete 60 ECTS credits of courses selected either from history program´s catalog or from other MA departments. Candidates must get 70 GPA out of 100 (2 out of 4) to have MA title. They also have to collect 90-120 ECTS credits and satisfactorily defend their thesis.

Profile of The Programme
Main purpose of the MA program in history is to give the students indispensable abilities of historical research such as methods of research, evaluation and analysis. Also students are expected to be aware of ethical rules.

1. To teach the methods of historical investigation.
2. To improve his/her ability in review of literature and analysis.
3. To be able to evaluate the historical literature in terms of content and use of sources.
4. To know the historical terminology in particular and other social sciences terminology in general and make use of them in prose.
5. To teach the language of archival sources of interest area.
6. To improve their point of view by letting them to have courses selected from other programs.
7. To give them opportunity of shoving their abilities in methodology by requiring them to publish at least an article.
8. Make them conscious of their contribution to the area of research and its impact upon the society.
9. To be able to evaluate the Turkish and world history in comparative perspective.
10. To give the students ability of evaluating new approaches to historical inquiry and a basic understanding of main areas such as general Turkish history, Ottoman paleography and such.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
MA title holders of history program can pursue an academic career in the universities such as lecturer or research assistant. Moreover they could also be employed in archives as an expert.

Access to Further Studies
MA title holders can apply to the Ph. D. program in history provided they pass necessary exams.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Attendance level of each course can not be less than %70. Exams could be written, oral or combination of both methods. Exams are evaluated out of 100. Students have to get 70 out of 100 to be considered successful. In MA program those who have taken AA (90-100), BA (85-89), BB (80-84), CB (75-79) and CC (70-74) are considered to be successful. For those who did not attend to the courses are given D (Unattended) and get FF as a course grade. Those who have satisfactorily completed their seminar and course are given G (Satisfactory).

Graduation Requirements
Those who have satisfactorily completed at least 60 ECTS worth of courses from history programs catalog, defended his thesis, has a GPA 70 out of 100 (2 out of 4) and collected 90-120 ECTS worth of courses are given MA title.

Facilities
The department consists of six chairs; the Ancient History, the History of Middle Ages, Early Modern History, Modern History, the History of the Turkish Republic and General Turkish History. There are 8 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, 2 Assistant Professors, 2 Teaching Assistant with PhD. and 6 research assistants in History Department. There are 13 rooms for academic staff, a meeting room and also a secretarial office.
