General Description
Bursa Uludag University Institute of Social Sciences founded in 1982 and offers both MA and PH.D degrees. The Institute run by a board consisting of the director, assistant directors and heads of programs and a board of management also consisting of the director, assistant directors and three faculty.
Ph. D. program in History has been accepting students since 05.05.2006 in accordance with the stipulations of Higher education Law (no 2547) in the following programs: the Ancient History, the History of Middle Ages, Early Modern History, Modern History, the History of the Turkish Republic and General Turkish History.
Ph. D. program in History is subjected to the third cycle grading system. Students need to complete courses successfully. Those who completed his/her courses, defended his/her theses and collected 180-240 ECTS has been awarded Ph. D. degree in History.

Specific Admission Requirements
1- MA degree in certain areas.
2- Having at least 55 in general graduate exam (ALES-SÖZ 55)
3-Satisfactory level of foreign language (Minimum 55 from YDS, E-YDS, TOEFL IBT, minimum 134 from TOEFL CBT and minimum 453 from TOEFL PBT).

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Firstly candidates have to satisfactorily complete 60 ECTS credits courses selected either from history program´s catalog or from other Ph.D. program´s and to get 75 GPA out of 100 (3 out of 4) to have PH. D. title.Also candidates have to collect 180-240 ECTS credits and satisfactorily defend their thesis.

Main purpose of the Ph. D. Program in history is to give the students expertise as to produce top notch academic investigation.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Those who have successfully completed the program can publish with Ph. D. title. They can be appointed to different posts in universities and can also be employed either in private or public sector.

Access to Further Studies
Those who have granted Ph.D. degree can continue to research and publish. Moreover they can apply for an associate professorship in the following fields: humanities and administrative sciences.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Courses of Ph.D. program in history consist of institute´s musts and respective program´s musts and electives. Students have to a %70 attendance in order to take the final exam. Every course has a term exam and they can be oral, written or combination of both. Exams are evaluated out of 100. Sudents need to get 75/100 to be successful. In Ph. D. program those who have taken AA (90-100), BA (85-89), BB (80-84), CB (75-79) are considered to be successful. For those who did not attend to the courses are given D (Unattended) and get FF as a course grade. Those who have satisfactorily completed their seminar and course are given G (Satisfactory).

Graduation Requirements
Those who have satisfactorily completed at least 60 ECTS worth of courses from history programs catalog, defended his thesis, has a 75 GPA out of 100 (3 out of 4) collected 180-240 ECTS worth of courses and published an original article in one of the designated international periodicals or in the national periodicals accepted by university senate are given Ph. D. title.

The department consists of six chairs; the Ancient History, the History of Middle Ages, Early Modern History, Modern History, the History of the Turkish Republic and General Turkish History. There are 8 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, 2 Assistant Professors, 2 teaching assistants with Ph.D. and 6 research assistants in History Department. There are 13 rooms for academic staff, a meeting room and also a secretarial office.
