Labour Economics and Industrial Relations
General Description
The Institute of Social Sciences (1982) is one of the four Institutes at Bursa Uludag University. The Institute has been going at full blast as offering MA and PhD Programmes since 1982-1983 academic year.
The Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations within the Institute consists of four scientific branches. These departments are;
- Labor Economics
- Labor and Social Security Law
- Management and Sociology of Work
- Management and Psychology of Work.
In the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations, two master´s programs are offered at the master´s level: Labor Economics and Industrial Relations with Thesis Master´s Program and Work Psychology and Human Resources with Thesis Master´s Program, and a single program at the doctoral level is the Labor Economics and Industrial Relations Doctoral Program.
Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relation is subject to the second stage degree system, with 90-120 ECTS for master´s degree. Students who successfully complete the program and meet the program qualifications receive a Master´s degree in Labor Economics and Industrial Relations.

Specific Admission Requirements
To apply for the Labor Economics and Industrial Relations Master´s Programme, is necessary to have received;
- Bachelor´s degree in Labor Economics and Industrial Relations, Economics, Psychology, Sociology or Law;
- At least 2.40 undergraduate GPA degree;
- At least 55 (equal weight) points from the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the last three years.
For foreign students, internationally documents (GRE, GMAT, etc.) are valid and ALES is not required. The equivalence of the undergraduate diplomas of foreign national candidates and Turkish citizens who completed their entire undergraduate education abroad must be approved by YÖK. The admission of these candidates to graduate programs is decided by the institute board of directors in line with the opinion of the department.
Candidates who want to apply for the master´s degree entrance exams must apply electronically with the required documents within the application and registration dates announced on the University´s website.
In accepting students to master´s programs; ALES score (50%), undergraduate GPA (20%) and written/interview exam result (30%) are evaluated. As a result of this evaluation, candidates who score at least sixty-five (65) points are ranked and students are considered successful as many as the number of quotas available.
Candidates who receive a bachelor´s degree from a field other than Labor Economics and Industrial Relations and are successful in the master´s exam, participate in the scientific preparation program for 1 year.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students who successfully complete the compulsory and elective courses for the Master´s program for at least 120 ECTS credits and successfully defend their thesis in front of a selected jury receive the Master´s Degree in Labor Economics and Industrial Relations.

Profile of The Programme
The program aims to increase the knowledge of students with social policy formation at the undergraduate level to the level of expertise in this field, and to develop their capacity to analyze social policy problems and conduct scientific research with the help of theoretical and applied knowledge. For this purpose, in addition to the compulsory courses in the department program, students are provided with the necessary equipment in line with their career plans through elective courses.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates can work in:
• Specialist and manager in human resources (personnel management) departments of industrial and service enterprises;
• Training and collective bargaining specialist, labor and social security law consultant in workers ´, civil servants and employers´ organizations;
• Expert and supervisor in all units and affiliated institutions of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the Ministry of Family and Social Services;
• Social security expert, social security inspector and inspector in the Social Security Institution;
• Employment Agency and the professionals employed in Turkey and inspection staff,
• Labor Attaché at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and,
• as a job and social security specialist in institutions that provide independent consultancy and training
they can make a career.

Access to Further Studies
Graduates who successfully complete the master´s program can continue their doctorate programs in the same or similar fields of higher education institutions in the country or abroad.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
In order for a student to be able to register for the courses at the beginning of the term and to take the final examination, she/he have to attend at least 70% of the classes. Students are made to take at least one mid-term and one final examination for each of the courses during a semester. The final grade for success is calculated by taking in account 60% of the mid-term grade and 40% of the final examination grade. Grades taken from the term papers, quizzes etc. can also be included in the calculation of the mid-term examination grade. All exams are assessed over a total of 100. For a student to be included in the Conditional Assessment System she/he needs to get a minimum of 20 as raw final grade and in order to be successful from a class her/his raw final grade must be at least 50. Besides, she/he must get a minimum of 50 as the final examination grade. A student is successful if she/he receives AA, BA, BB, CB and CC as the letter grade from a class. The letter grades of DC and DD stand for conditional success. In these cases, in order for a student to be successful from the class, her/his Cumulative Grade Point Average(CGPA) should be at least 2.0.

Graduation Requirements
In order to successfully complete the program, it is necessary to pass the courses available in the program by taking at least 120 ECTS credits and successfully complete the prepared thesis work.

Education language at Labour Economics and Industrial Relations is Turkish. There are currently seven full time professors, two full- time associate professor, five full-time assistant professor, one full- time senior lecturer, four research assistant and two project assistants working in the department. Student should used and register to Bursa Uludag UniversityCentral Library and access all hardbacks and electronic services. In addition a newsroom is active at faculty and available for students also two broadband internet access facilities computer laboratory may used. Departments have signed student exchange program with ESTGF-Portugal, University of Granda - Spain and University of Varna-Bulgaria framed Erasmus-Socrates Agreement and mutual academic support agreement with RMIT-Australia.
