Labour Economics and Industrial Relations
General Description
The Institute of Social Sciences (1982) is one of the four Institutes at Bursa Uludag University. The Institute has been going at full blast as offering MA and PhD Programmes since 1982-1983 academic year.
The Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations within the Institute consists of four scientific branches. These departments are;
- Labor Economics
- Labor and Social Security Law
- Management and Sociology of Work
- Management and Psychology of Work.
In the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations, two master´s programs are offered at the master´s level: Labor Economics and Industrial Relations with Thesis Master´s Program and Work Psychology and Human Resources with Thesis Master´s Program, and a single program at the doctoral level is the Labor Economics and Industrial Relations Doctoral Program.
The Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations follows a third-cycle degree system in higher education, requiring the successful completion of a 240 ECTS credit program in the field. Upon fulfilling the program requirements and achieving the specified qualifications, graduates are awarded a Doctorate (PhD) in Labour Economics and Industrial Relations.

Specific Admission Requirements
To apply to the Labor Economics and Industrial Relations PhD Programme;
- Undergraduate degrees are in Labor Economics and Industrial Relations, Economics, Sociology, Psychology and Law, and in the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations (opened under the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations, with Labor Psychology and Human Resources, Social Policy, Labor and Social Security Law). Having a master´s degree (including Human Resources Management Master´s Programs);
- At least 3.0 GPA in Master´s degree;
- A score of at least 55 (equal weight) from the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the last three years;
- It is required to have a minimum score in the exams listed below, including English, French, German or Arabic.
o At least 55 for KPDS, ÜDS or TOEFL IBT
o Minimum score of 134 for TOEFL CBT
o At least 453 for TOEFL PBT.
Foreign students, except those studying in Turkey, are required to have a Turkish Proficiency Certificate.
Candidates who want to apply for the PhD entrance exams must apply electronically with the required documents within the application and registration dates announced on the University´s website.
In accepting students to doctoral programs; ALES score (50%), master´s grade average (15%), foreign language achievement score (15%) and written/interview exam result (20%) are evaluated. As a result of this evaluation, candidates who score at least sixty-five (65) points are ranked and students are considered successful as many as the number of quotas available.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students accepted to the doctoral program with a master´s degree with thesis must pass at least 240 ECTS in order to graduate. This credit load must consist of at least eight courses and seminars at the course stage, provided that it is not less than 60 ECTS for an academic year; The remaining load must be provided from the seminar, qualifying exam and thesis work after the course phase.

The Doctoral Program in Labor Economics and Industrial Relations aims to cultivate researchers who can make original academic and practical contributions in the field of social policy.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates may pursue academic careers at universities and research institutes, hold expert and managerial positions in public institutions such as the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the Ministry of Family and Social Services, and the Social Security Institution, or work as consultants in private sector organizations on topics such as human resource management, occupational health and safety, and collective bargaining processes.

Access to Further Studies
Graduates can be accepted to postdoctoral programs abroad if they meet the necessary conditions.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
IEach student is required to register for courses at the beginning of the semester and must attend at least 70% of the classes to be eligible for the end-of-semester exam. Students are subject to at least one final exam for each course. All exams are graded on a scale of 100 points. Doctoral students must obtain a minimum score of 75 in the final exam. A course is considered successfully completed if the student receives one of the following letter grades: AA, BA, BB, or CB.

Graduation Requirements
In order to successfully complete the program, it is necessary to pass all the courses available in the program (equivalent to 240 ECTS), be successful in the qualifying exam, publish an article in a refereed journal and successfully complete the thesis.
