Brief History
The Department of Economics, located in the institute of social sciences, founded in 1974. Department of Economics consist of four departments.These departments are Economic Theory, Economic Policy, Economic Development and International Economics and Economic History.

Qualification Awarded
The Department of Economics is subject to between 180 and 240 ECTS credits for Ph.D. degree in economics. After the program is completed succesfully and programs qualifications are met, Ph.D. is taken in the field of economics

Specific Admission Requirements
1- Masters degree 2- Candidates must get sufficient score from Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES). For the department of Economics, Candidates must take at least 55 points from ALES. For foreign students, Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam and other international exams result such as GRE, GMAT etc. are accepted and grade is not required. 3- Candidates must have sufficient language skills(at least 55 points from UÜDS, KPDS, ÜDS or at least 55 points from TOEFL IBT or at least 134 points from TOEFL CBT or at least 453 points from TOEFL PBT and other alternative exams. Foreign students (except those who have study in Turkey) must have at leat 55 points from any of English, French, German or Arabic language exams and must take Turkish language certificate from TÖMER - ALES 50% + GRADUATE SUCCESS AVARAGE 10% + MASTER SUCCESS AVARAGE 10% + EXAM/INTERVIEW 30% To take a masters degree, Candidates points are calculated as can be seen in the equation above. After this calculation, Candidates are ranked starting with the highest score, they are taken according to the quota.(Minimum score of 70 must be obtained for a passing grade). For foreign studens: - MASTER SUCCESS AVARAGE 50% + FOREIGN LANGUAGE 50% = After this calculation, Candidates are ranked starting with the highest score, they are taken according to the quota.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To take a masters degree, it is required that master courses at least 24 or most 30 credits (24 credits in Ph.D. in thesis) must be taken and must be completed succesfully. Additionally it is required that graduation average must be at least 75 out of 100 and Ph.D. thesis must be successfully submitted and approved by a jury.

Profile of The Programme
Ph.D. in economics aims to provide a formation of universal norms in the field of theoretical and applied economics. Ph. D. program in economics is designed in a manner that enable graduates analyse economic problems and policies adopted to solve them with an academic perspective and in the light of contemporary theoretic developments using quantitative and econometric methods where necessary.Due to the purpose of this program, students can understand and analyze current economic problems with an academic perspective by using quantitative and econometric methods.

Key Learning Outcomes & Classified & Comparative
1. Being able to improve and broaden the advanced level of contemporary knowledge in the field of economics to an expert level through a unique vision and research practice and to come up with peculiar definitions that will break new grounds in science.
2. Being able to use and evaluate the expert level knowledge on economic theory, political economy and international economics that are required in experts and researchers who are much needed by the public and private sectors.
3. Being able to evaluate the effect of economic policies on real economic indicators.
4. Being able to research, critically analyze and evaluate an original topic in the field of economics.
5. Being able to publish at least one scientific article related to the field of economics in a peer-reviewed journal.

Program aims to train scientists but additionally it directs students to areas of specialization for employment opportunities as researchers in public or private sectors.

Access to Further Studies
Candidates with a masters degree can continue their education in ph.d. under the condition that they have acquired sufficient scores in ALES and foreign language exams. They also need to pass a written and an oral exam.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Each graduate student should register to courses in the beginning of a period and should have attended to at least %70 of the classes. Students enter at least 1 final exam for each course. All exams are evaluated on the 100 points basis.It is obligatory to acquire 75 points to be deemed succesful in a course. A student achieves success from a course if he/she got any of the grade points AA, BA, BB, CB or CC.

Graduation Requirements
Terms of graduation include success in the courses (180-240 ECTS) , succes in the proficiency exam and occupational training courses, publishing an article in a refereed journal and successfully submitting a thesis.
