General Description

Brief History
Department of Philosophy (within the body of Institute for Social Sciences) offers 3 programs on Graduate levels. "Master of Arts Program" (MA), "Doctorate Program" (Ph.D.), and "Human, Society and Philosophy Program (MA without thesis)."
The theme of the "Master" and "Doctorate" programs is generally adopted on a ´problem oriented´ basis while considering the whole historical process of philosophy in sight. On the other hand, even though both the post graduate program and the doctorate program allow for all subjects covering all the eras of the history of philosophy, the programs mainly covers the lessons of continental philosophy.
Being executed by the Philosophy Branch of the Social Sciences Institute and also supported by the Sociology, Psychology and History disciplines, the non-thesis post-graduate study "Human, Society and Philosophy" program go well in harmony with each other in current approach.

Qualification Awarded
After the programme of 120 ECTS has been completed and the qualifications of the programme have been provided, Masters degree is taken in the Division of Philosophy.

Specific Admission Requirements
Master Programme Admission Requirements: 1- Undergraduate diploma 2-Sufficent points from (ALES) Selection Examination for Academic Personnel and Graduate Studies (its validity is 3 years and at least 55 points in equally-weighted type. For foreigners ALES certificate and international certificates (GRE, GMAT etc.) are valid and points condition is not necessary). 3- Adequate foreign language skills (at least 50 points from UÜDS, KPDS, ÜDS, at least 50 points from TOEFL IBT, at least 130 points from TOEFL CBT, at least 450 points from TOEFL PBT and other equal exams, foreigners must have Turkish certification from Tömer excluding students who train in Turkey). Students who don´t have a undergraduate degree in Philosophy have to successfully complete the "Scientific Preparatory Programme" for two semesters.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students who complete the program of 120 ECTS in Master programme, get at least 70 grade point average over 100 and successfully defend their thesis which they prepare related to their subject before a chosen jury get Masters diploma in the Division of Philosophy.

Profile of The Programme
Aim of the Division of Philosophy is to educate graduates who can recognize the problem areas of philosophy with accoutrements of history of philosophy, who think abstract therefore, can converge with philosophical view to the cultural, social and ethical problems of our age, which criticize, pose questions, discontent with problems and seek solutions, who have awareness of responsibility.

1. To deepen the ability of using the basic concepts of the discipline of philosophy in a specific area.
2. To obtain the ability of evaluating and interpreting the philosophical problems in a specific area by using the basic concepts and the theories of philosophy on the ground of the knowledge of history of philosophy.
3. To be a sensible person to the humane, social, cultural, moral and political problems in our age and to produce solutions to these problems in a philosophical manner.
4. To specialize in a certain problem area or history of philosophy by improving the methods of text analyzing, interpretation, evaluation and critique which bring in skills for text reading and writing concerns the comprehension and solution of philosophical problems.
5. To use the correct forms of thinking and obtain intellectual accoutrements, by developing a philosophical look upon knowledge, science, art and being.
6. To obtain a consciousness regarding the preservation of the human rights, history and ethics by seeing the development of the thought of the human rights with a philosophical look upon human.
7. To be a person who criticizes, investigates and makes true evaluations, by obtaining a philosophical look upon the values.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates who take pedagogical formation have the opportunity to work in high schools and in training centers as Teacher of Group of Philosophy and Psychological Counseling and Guidance in both private and public sectors. Graduates can make academical career by taking second and third cycle programmes. They can also canalize in several job fields as public relations, advertising, advertisement authorship, editorial in written and visual media, criticism conjoint with their personal improvements and in interpretership depending on their foreign language level.

Access to Further Studies
Candidates who completed successfully the undergraduate education and provide condition of appeal + interview, may train in Master programme. Candidates who completed successfully the undergraduate education and provide condition of appeal + interview, may train in Doctorate programme.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
In the beginning of the semester every student has to register to the course he wants to participate. In order to take the final exams of the semester, the student has to take %70 of the course. For each course the students must take at least one final exam. All examinations are evaluated over 100 points. The students have to get at least 70 points in the final exam in Master programme. The students who receive the grades AA, BA, BB, CB and CC in a course are considered as successful.

Graduation Requirements
In order to complete the program, all the courses which are available (120 ECTS) must be taken successfully and the master thesis must be defended successfully.

Facilities
Department of Philosophy at Uludag University has been continuing its training with the contributions of 5 professors, 1 associate professors, 3 assistant professor, 1 research assistants with doctorate degrees, 2 research assistants, 3 TSTP (Teaching Staff Training Program) research assistants and 7 Project Assistants on BA Courses (since 1990) together with doctorate and post graduate programs (from 2004); some of the research assistants within the body of Teaching Staff Training Program are already employed on that aim of giving education.
