History of Islam and Islamic Arts
General Description
Department of history of Islam and Islamic Arts comprises of History of Islam, Turkish Islamic Literature, Turkish Religious Music, Turkish Islamic Arts. History of Islam and Turkish Islamic Literature are taught at the graduate level of MA.
This department is subject to the second stage degree system of 120 ECTS credits in higher education for MA program at the department of History of Islam and Islamic Arts. Once program is successfully completed and key learning outcomes are accomplished student gets MA degree in History of Islam and Islamic Arts.

Specific Admission Requirements
1- Graduate diploma
2- Required grade from Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES), (5 years of validity at least 40 points and for verbal section is required). For international applicants ALES and GRE (Graduate Record Examination), GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test), etc. are acceptable and no score is required.
3- To have the ability of sufficient foreign language (at least 40 points for YDS, YOKDIL; 50 for TOEFL IBT; 130 for TOEFL CBT; 450 for TOEFL PBT or other equal tests. For international students certificate from TÖMER (except whom studied in Turkey).

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Candidates for the MA degree who complete successfully at least 24 units of credit, and get at least 70 over 100 and prepare and defend a master thesis in their field in front of a jury selected are given diploma of MA in the field of History of Islam and Islamic Arts.

The aim of MA program of History of Islam and Islamic Arts is to train talented senior researchers of critical thinking skills who produce information in this field and share it at the national and international circles. And to prepare students who are successful in MA to Ph.D. program.

Student knows sufficient level of Arabic and one western language to use the main sources in the field.

Student knows sufficient level of Persian and Ottoman Turkish.

Student uses his/her experience from the field to meet the needs of the society in Islamic culture and civilization.

Student attends and contributes to various organizations in the field.

Student helps to develop strategies on the subjects of his/her profession.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates of MA degree of History of Islam and Islamic Arts could work in Educational Religious Services as better equipped officials as well as they work as research assistant and lecturer at faculties such as Arts and Science, Education, Humanities and Social Sciences and especially Faculty of Theology.

Access to Further Studies
Graduated applicants could study in MA program at the department of History of Islam and Islamic Arts after providing the necessary conditions and being successful.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Each student should register lessons at the beginning of the term and must be present at least % 70 of each lesson to enter the final exams. Students take at least one final exam for each lesson in a term. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. Student should at least 70 points to pass. Students are accepted successful when they get AA, BA, BB, CB, CC.

Graduation Requirements
To complete the program successfully students should pass all the lessons of the programme (120 ECTS) and complete his/her thesis successfully.
