Bursa Uludağ University Institute of Health Sciences, Department of Parasitology, gives PhD education. Students, who complete the education of PhD in the Department of Parasitology get the degree of Doctor of Parasitology (PhD). In this program, students should get basic parasitological information. Besides, they should follow the recent developments in parasitology, follow the literature, plan related projects and participate in existing studies in the department.

The department offers the second and the third cycles of higher education in terms of ECTS credits (90-120 credits, awarding a Master´s degree/180-240 credits, awarding a Doctoral degree). After the successful completion of the program and fulfilment of requirements, a doctoral degree in Parasitology is awarded.

Third Cycle

To apply for a doctoral program; - Candidates must hold a Master´s degree, or a degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, or, for those with degrees in pharmacy and faculty of arts and sciences, an expert certificate in a department of laboratory as approved by the Ministry of Health. Direct admission to the doctoral program with a Bachelor´s degree depends on the specific requirements of the doctoral program. - For health sciences, holders of Bachelor´s and Master´s degrees must possess ALES with the minimum acceptable score on sciences determined by the Senate. - Those holding a degree in medicine must possess either an ALES score on sciences or TUS when applying for a doctoral program in basic medical sciences. Candidates must score at least 50 points in medical sciences when applying to the program with TUS. Those who have completed specialization are not required to possess ALES or TUS when applying for a doctoral program. - Among foreign languages such as English, German, French, Italian, Russian and Arabic, and for foreign nationals, among languages such as English, German, and French, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in a language by satisfying one of the following exams; ÜDS, KPDS, TOEFL or equivalent approved by YÖK, and provide the minimum acceptable score as approved by the Senate. Recognition of any other foreign language qualifications is dependent on the Senate. - For foreign nationals, admission requirement shall be any of the following; Turkish Proficiency Exam by TÖMER and corresponding ALES score, or scores in exams such as GRE or GMAT, accepted as internationally equivalent by YÖK. - Candidates for Master´s and doctoral programs must possess a minimum score of 55 points in ALES; 50 language points in ÜDS/KPDS/UÜDS or equivalent for Master´s programs, and 55 language points in ÜDS/KPDS or equivalent for doctoral programs. For foreign nationals, a Document by TÖMER certifying the knowledge of Turkish (except for those studying in Turkey) is accepted equivalent to the score of the exams approved by YÖK as an equivalent language proficiency exam. Those applying for doctoral programs with TUS are required to possess a minimum score of 50 points in related field. Those who score below 60 points in overall performance are not admitted. In evaluation, the listed exams are responsible for the following percentages: TUS/ALES score 50%, Foreign Language 15%, GPA of Bachelor´s/Master´s degree 15%, interview 20%.

The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

To apply the PhD education program in Parasitology must be graduated from the Veterinary Faculty or get a master of science (MS) degree. In order to get the degree of PhD, students must complete the all mandatory lessons which are associated or departmental and they must get a mark of 75 over 100. They should take and pass Biostatistics which has 7.5 ECTS as a mandatory Institute lesson and should take and pass Planning and Evaluation in Teaching as a mandatory credit-free lesson. Besides, they should take and pass eight mandatory departmental lessons which have 35 ECTS.

Students in the Ph.D. program should get parasitological information, beside they should know the biology, diagnosis, treatment and harmful effects of animal parasites, research procedures, and principles of writing local or foreign language articles.
