General Description
Bursa University Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was founded in 1976. Following educational reorganization in 1982 it was renamed as Uludag University Faculty of Engineering. In 1993, after the decision of the establishment of the Department of Architecture the name of the Faculty was changed as Uludag University Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. In the 2011-2012 academic year, The Faculty has eight departments. These are Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Textile Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Automotive Engineering and Civil Engineering Departments.
In 1994 the Department of Architecture started to provide a four-year B-Arch, in 2000 a Master’s Degree Program, and in 2005 a Ph.D. Program. In the 1994-1995 academic year, 20 students were accepted at the undergraduate level, but the student quota was increased to 57 in the 2011-2012 academic year. In the 2021-2022 academic year 706 students have been educated in the Department of Architecture.
The Department of Architecture, is subject to the first cycle degree system of higher education in the field of Architecture Science that has 240 ECTS credits. If the program is successfully completed and the program qualifications are met, the students shall have a BS degree in Science of Architecture.

Specific Admission Requirements for Bachelor Degree:
Candidates must have high school diploma Candidates must obtain the required scores on the examinations called Transition to Higher Education Examination (YGS) and Undergraduate Placement Examination (LYS) administred by Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM)

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students have to succeed in required compulsory, elective courses and summer practices totally 240 ECTS credits determined in the educational plan of the Department of Architecture and their CGPAs have to be at least 2.00 in order to receive a graduate diploma

The aim of the program is to bring up architects who have professional knowledge and capability for taking an effective role in the formation and transformation of the physical environment; can work in harmony within a team which consists of members from different disciplines, have the ability of making analysis, synthesis and interpretation; have awareness on the necessity of lifetime learning and have architectural professional responsibility and ethical values.

Access to Further Studies
Candidates who completed bachelor degree successfully, passed ALES examination and proved to have sufficient knowledge of foreign language are eligible to study in graduate programmes.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
At the beginning of each semester students should register for the courses. Students must attend theoretical courses minimum 70% and practical courses minimum 80%, in order to participate in final examinations. Students are subject to at least one midterm and one final examination for each course. The weight of midterm grade (termpaper as midterm grade, presentation,quiz can be considered in evaluation) is 40% and the weight of final examination grade is 60%. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. Students must obtain at least 50 points from final examinations. Students who receive grades such as AA, BA, BB, CB and CC succeed from the course. DC and DD are grades considered as conditional success. In order for each student who receive DC and DD grades to be successful from that course, his/her CGPA should be at least 2.0.

Graduation Requirements
In order to complete the program, students must successfully pass all the courses determined in the programme (240 ECTS), have minimum 2.0 average grade out of 4.00, succeed in graduation project and complete summer practice (office and construction site).

As for the 2021-2022 academic year, Department of Architecture includes 10 professor, 6 associate professors, 1 instructors with Ph.D, 10 research assistants.
Department of Architecture started academic activities in 1994-95 and facilitated in the central building of Faculty of Engineering and Architecture and in the building of Environmental Engineering Department until January 1998. In October 1, 1998 the department began to facilitate in its own building officially. The building of Department of Architecture has three stories with 3568 sqm. enclosed area (ground floor: 1428 sqm, first floor: 1200 sqm; roof level: 940 sqm) and an interior open courtyard with 359 sqm. There are four studio spaces; one multi-purpose hall in roof level for seminars, workshops and exhibition activities; one computer laboratory; one material laboratory; one seminar hall; two classrooms; one room for archive; one room for community-use; one canteen and rooms of administrative and academic staff.
