Brief History
Automotive Engineering Department was established in 2010 and was started to give education on master of science degree in 2011 and Ph.D. degree in 2013. The Department offers programs to qualified students for further education and research at advanced level, leading to the degrees of MSc, integrated PhD and Ph.D in Automotive Engineering.

Qualification Awarded
The Doctorate (Ph. D.) Degree in Automotive Engineering Program is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum.

Specific Admission Requirements
Master school certificate is required. Bachelor´s degree candidates can apply to the integrated PhD program. The application conditions, evaluation, required documents, exams and registration issues for the Ph.D. program are announced on the University website.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students who are accepted to the doctorate program with a master´s degree with thesis must be successful at least 240 ECTS in order to graduate.This credit load must be at least eight courses and seminars during the course, provided that it is not less than 60 ECTS for an academic year. The remaining load must be provided from the seminar, proficiency exam and thesis work after the course phase. The graduation requirement for the students in the integrated doctorate program consists of a total of at least 300 ECTS credits, including at least fourteen courses, seminars, proficiency exam and thesis work. All students are required to prepare a thesis and defend it against a jury. In order for the student to graduate, it is also required to fulfill the publication or scientific activity requirement determined by the decision of the Senate.

The objectives of the Automotive Engineering Doctor of Philosophy Program are to educate undergraduates to acquire knowledge and skills in automotive related issues especially in design and manufacturing and also to provide skills, in order to fulfill the needs and expectations of automotive industry and society and to play a leadership role in their economic and cultural advancement for the benefit of society providing world-class knowledge and education, showing continuous self-improvement in education and regarding as a well-known qualified program. Automotive Engineering Doctor of Philosophy Program aims to support development of automotive field in Bursa and in Turkish industry regarding the development of scientific advances and requirements of University-Industry cooperation.

Key Learning Outcomes & Classified & Comparative
1. To be able to deepen the information gained in B.Sc. and MSc educations and make the practical use of them in automotive engineering area.
2. To be able to improve the abilities of analyse, synthesis and judgemental evaluation in order to solve complex problem independantly.
3. To be able to design a process or a system by using modern design methodology and tools.
4. To be able to gather data, evaluate and interprete by using scientific methods.
5. To be able to find complete solutions by taking part in multi-disciplinary teams and combining the information obtained.
6. To be able to express the aggregation his/her knowledge in oral and written forms effectively, to communicate at least in one foreign language.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Automotive Engineering Ph.D. program Graduates can work in the wide range of automotive industry organizations, R&D (Research and Development) firms, consulting companies, manufacturing industry, transportation systems, defense and aerospace industry, and in a wide variety of private and public sectors and firms in international and national organizations.

Access to Further Studies
Graduates who successfully completed doctorate degree may apply to both in the same or related disciplines in higher education institutions at home or abroad to get a position in academic staff or to governmental R&D centers to get expert position.

Facilities
In 2011, the Automotive Engineering Department moved to the new modern building which includes offices, lecture rooms, laboratories and a modern conference room. In Automotive Engineering Department, education and research studies are carried out through four branches as Vehicle Design, Vehicle Dynamics and Control, Vehicle Propulsion and Power Systems, Vehicle Transport Systems. Most of the courses require the students to implement their projects and homeworks on modern high performance computing systems. Department has 6 Professor, 4 Associate Professors, 3 Assistant Professors, 7 Research Assistant. The department is proud to be a pioneer department for Turkey, as being one of the first of its kind in Turkey, it will lead many activities in automotive fields and it will successfully continue to attain the three goals of its mission; education, research and public service.
