Religious and Moral Education
General Description

Brief History
Department of Religious and Moral Education was first established in the academic year 1997-98 at Faculty of Ilahiyat/Divinity. In 2006-2007, Turkish Higher Education Council decided to transfer this Department to FACULTY of EDUCATİON to bring all the `teacher training` departments together. This also led to some changes in the program of Department of Religious and Moral Education. All the graduates have been placed as religious education teachers in primary and secondary schools by the Ministry of Education.

Specific Admission Requirements
Students are required to have a BA degree in Department of Religious and Moral Education and/or Faculty of Theology.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Profile of The Programme
MA program offers a specialist study in the field of Religious and Moral Education
Students are expected to demonstrate the ability to analyze and interpret the culture that sits behind and impacts the period studied in each course
Program offers a study in the field in which students not only Identify and evaluate the major source material, both primary and secondary, for each course taken but also articulate key principles, issues, problems, or questions for each course with their resolutions where possible.

1. Develop the practices of thinking, acting, and teaching in today´s culturally, generationally, and theologically diverse society
2. Academic and professional skills so that they can confidently plan, develop and manage innovatory projects in Religious Education
3. know and apply the academic tools and methods utilized in various disciplines within the field of religion
4. synthesize and apply theories and concepts from a variety of academic disciplines when innovating and problem solving in educational contexts
5. increase proficiency in handling and interpreting a range of data relating to as aspect of teaching and learning and curriculum leadership of Religious Education or arising from action research
6. develop ability to explore and critically analyse aspects of Conceptual frameworks in RE
7. engage in dialogue about the state of and challenges to religious education in Turkey and devise educational strategies to meet the evolving needs of the field
8. creatively adapt and skillfully implement the leading tools and best practices accepted in the field of teaching and learning, in order to engage in effective planning, teaching and assessment.
9. develop a capacity for critical thinking, interpersonal skills relevant to multicultural, multireligious social realities, by having a personal philosophy of teaching with an aesthetic understanding of the ethical and legal responsibilities that shape the field of religious and moral education.

PhD research (two requirements: Second Language certificate and Certificate of Postgraduate Academic Entry Exam)

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
One mid-term written exam and one final exam for each course per semester Written coursework/report/essay calculated for the assessment.

Graduation Requirements
In order to be awarded an MA certificate, students must successfully complete (minimum DD) the necessary semester hours (24) both in theoretical and practice courses. Achieve a succesful completion of seminar and written work

Facilities
All courses are taught by experts in the field knowledge as well as pedagogics.
Department has three academic staff in tenure position.
Students may transfer their studies to another University Department in the same field.
Students can apply for Farabi (similar to Erasmus) program a student and staff exchange program between Turkish universities.
Students can use both the central library in the main campus and the library of the Faculty of Divinity.
