General Description
Biosystems Engineering Degree Program was developed mainly in the United States of America and began to provide training. In addition, Biosystems Engineering comes forward in countries such as Canada and Australia whose educational systems close to USA. The transition to Biosystems Engineering program is a more recent in Europe. Despite this, a few universities in some European Countries such as Ireland (Dublin), Belgium (Leuven), Spain (Barcelona-Catalunya) and Slovenia (Maribor) teach under the name of Biosystems and similar engineering.
In our country, the relevant departments in Uludag University (Bursa), Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam University (Kahramanmaras) and Gaziosmanpasa University (Tokat) established first Biosystems Engineering Departments in 2009 and they began admitting students in the academic year 2009-2010. Following these universities, Namik Kemal University (Tekirdag), Yuzuncu Yil University (Van), Bozok University (Yozgat), Mustafa Kemal University (Hatay), Erciyes University (Kayseri), Bingol University (Bingol), Adiyaman University (Adıyaman), Nigde University (Nigde) and Cyprus International University (Nicosia, TRNC) have initiated the programme under Biosystems Engineering.
This program is subject to the first stage degree system with 140 credit hours (240 ECTS) in the field of Biosystems Engineering in higher education. A bachelor´s degree in Biosystems Engineering field can be attained when the program is completed succesfully and the program qualifications are met.
First Cycle
4
Specific Admission Requirements
Candidates must have a high school certificate and a sufficient score from Nationwide University Student Selection Exam. Also, in the Department of Biosystems Engineering, where at least 30% of the courses are taught in English, English Proficiency must be documented through YOKDIL, YDS, TOEFL or foreign language exams held at Bursa Uludağ University. For students who cannot achieve English proficiency, a one-year English preparatory class is applied. In case of failure, the preparatory class is repeated. In case of failure for the second time, students are placed by the YOK in another equivalent program that provides education in Turkish.
5
Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.
