The Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine was established in 1970 under the name Bursa Faculty of Medicine by Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. As part of its establishment process, the Chest Diseases Hospital, which had previously operated under the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, was converted into a Faculty of Medicine Hospital in 1974. In the same year, educational activities commenced under the founding deanship of Prof. Dr. Fikret Karaca.
Following the establishment of Bursa University in 1975, the faculty continued its activities as an affiliated faculty of Bursa University. In 1982, with the renaming of the university as Uludağ University, the faculty adopted the name Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine, and in 2020, it was renamed Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine. The Department of Basic Medical Sciences has been located at the Görükle Campus since 1985, while clinical departments have been providing services at the same campus since 1992.
The duration of medical education at the faculty is six years. Upon request, students may attend a one-year English Preparatory Program, which is not included in the six-year medical education period.
Following Uludağ University’s participation in the Bologna Process in 2001, aimed at establishing a compatible European Higher Education Area, the faculty became one of the pioneering institutions to restructure its educational programs in line with its vision and mission. The Regulation on the Credit-Based Associate and Undergraduate Education System was approved by the University Senate on 08 June 2001 and implemented across the university, including the Faculty of Medicine, in the 2001–2002 academic year.
In October 2002, the faculty was evaluated by the World Federation for Medical Education and recognized as an institution providing education in accordance with international standards. In 2003, it successfully completed the European Institutional Evaluation Process. In 2012, the Medical Education Program was evaluated by the National Medical Education Accreditation Board (UTEAK) and accredited for meeting the National Standards for Undergraduate Medical Education in Turkey until 01 January 2018. Following this period, the program underwent its first re-accreditation process based on positive interim and self-evaluation reports. Upon completion of the second re-accreditation process, the program was re-accredited until 01 January 2030.
The educational program follows an integrated structure progressing from the molecular level to more complex systems of the human organism. Students acquire and apply medical knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes through a three-stage educational framework in which preclinical and clinical training processes are closely integrated. Stage 3, corresponding to the sixth year, is defined in the curriculum as the “Family Medicine Phase.”

This program is structured as a first-cycle (undergraduate-level) degree system in the field of medicine, comprising 360 ECTS credits. Upon successful completion of the program and fulfillment of the program learning outcomes, graduates are awarded the title of Medical Doctor (MD).

Applicants are required to hold a high school or equivalent diploma and to have obtained a sufficient score in the University Entrance Examination (LYS). The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

In order to obtain a bachelor’s degree in medicine, students are required to successfully complete all compulsory and elective courses and clerkships included in the curriculum, as well as other educational activities such as observations in family medicine outpatient clinics, on-call duties in emergency units, home visits to patients with chronic diseases, preclinical research activities, presentations, and seminars, corresponding to a total of 360 ECTS credits. In addition, students must achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.00 out of 4.00.

QUALITY POLICY

STRUCTURE OF THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
The educational program is structured in accordance with the principles of horizontal, vertical, and deep integration. Basic medical sciences, clinical sciences, and human sciences are delivered concurrently and supported by integrated modules and clerkships enriched with panels, problem-based learning, small group sessions, peer-assisted learning, and simulation-based education.
The program consists of three stages:
• Stage 1 (Years 1–3):
Covers the preclinical phase and aims to prepare students for clinical education through foundational scientific knowledge and the development of professional attitudes.
• Stage 2 (Years 4–5):
Represents the clinical education phase, during which students develop competencies in clinical reasoning, diagnosis and treatment planning, application of clinical skills, and ethical and professional behavior.
• Stage 3 (Year 6):
A continuous 12-month Family Medicine phase, in which students who have successfully completed the previous stages actively participate in clinical practice.
Students who successfully complete all three stages are awarded the Medical Doctor (MD) degree.

Graduates of the Faculty of Medicine are eligible to apply for postgraduate medical specialty training programs. Graduates may be employed in primary healthcare institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Türkiye, emergency departments, pre-hospital emergency medical services, and healthcare administration units. Following the completion of compulsory public service, graduates may also work in private healthcare institutions and health-related private organizations, in addition to public healthcare settings. Graduates who are not citizens of the Republic of Türkiye are likewise eligible to apply for medical specialty training programs and may pursue employment in accordance with the legal regulations and legislation of their home countries.

Graduates who successfully complete medical education are eligible for access to further study programs, provided that they demonstrate an adequate level of foreign language proficiency and achieve success in the relevant competitive examinations (Medical Specialty Examination, Academic Staff Training Program, and doctoral programs).

In order to be eligible to take the end-of-term examination, students must attend at least 70% of theoretical courses and 80% of practical sessions. For each annually scheduled course, a minimum of two (2) midterm examinations are administered. Each examination conducted at the end of a module/block is considered a midterm examination. At the end of the academic year, a final examination covering all modules is administered. The raw achievement score is calculated by weighting the midterm examination scores by 60% and the final examination score by 40%. This raw score is then converted into a letter grade using the relative grading system. All examinations are evaluated out of 100 points. The Final Examination Threshold (FET) and the Minimum Raw Achievement Score (MRAS) are both set at 60. Students who receive one of the following letter grades — AA, BA, BB, CB, or CC — are considered to have successfully completed the course. In Block Education clerkships, any raw achievement score below 60 is graded as FF (fail). Scores of 60 or above are converted into letter grades according to the fixed grading scale. During the Family Medicine Phase, students must be evaluated as “Successful” by the relevant department. Students who do not take the semester/year-end or make-up examinations, or who take the examination but receive a score below the Final Examination Threshold (FET), are deemed unsuccessful and are directly assigned a grade of FF. In order to successfully graduate from the Faculty of Medicine, it is necessary to pass all the courses available in the first five years (equivalent to 360 ECTS), to achieve a weighted grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and to be successful in the family medicine period. Our graduates obtain their graduation diplomas following the approval of the Ministry of Health after completing their two-year compulsory service.

The Faculty of Medicine employs a total of 172 Professors, 74 Associate Professors, 22 Assistant Professors, 39 Specialist Physicians, 79 Subspecialty Residents, and 755 Research Assistants. This academic workforce provides a strong human resource base supporting education, research, and healthcare delivery.
Since its establishment, the faculty has graduated 9,929 physicians. As of 31 December 2025, 9,830 graduates (98.99%) have been successfully contacted, of whom 5,225 are specialist physicians 4,044 are general practitioners, and 561 are residents in medical specialty training programs. Within the context of postgraduate education, the faculty has trained a total of 3,105 specialist physicians, including 162 subspecialists.
Theoretical education at the faculty is delivered in three large lecture halls and more than 30 smaller classrooms. The majority of these classrooms are equipped with internet-connected computers, projection systems, and audio equipment, providing a modern technological learning environment.
Within the integrated curriculum, the USİM – Good Medical Practice and Simulation Center serves as a core component of the educational process. The center includes facilities for clinical skills training, cyber anatomy and cyber physiology units, computer and microscopy laboratories, and multidisciplinary technology areas. It also houses a standardized patient outpatient clinic consisting of six units and a simulation unit equipped with five wireless high-technology simulators.
The simulation unit allows for the replication of various clinical settings, including emergency departments, patient observation rooms, delivery suites, ultrasound practice areas, and an educational ambulance, enabling students to engage in a wide range of patient and disease scenarios.
Practical training activities are conducted at the Bursa Uludağ University Hospital, which is equipped with advanced technological infrastructure and has a capacity of 827 beds. The hospital was accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) in 2007 for a period of seven years and has also been awarded the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System Certificate.
