Brief History
Gemlik Asım Kocabıyık Vocational School Horticulture Programme was founded in the 2006-2007 academic year.

Qualification Awarded
This program consists of two years of pre-Bsc and 120 hours of ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). When the program is successfully completed and the program requirements are met, students can obtain a pre-Bsc degree.

Specific Admission Requirements
Prospective students must have a high school degree or equivalent and have had enough points in YGS 6 (The Transition to Higher Education Exam); or they can pass without exam, from vocational schools to their related branches at universities.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
The pre-Bsc degree is awarded to those who have successfully completed all compulsory and elective courses in the curriculum (120 ECTS in total) and have obtained a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 on a 4.00 scale.

Profile of The Programme
The aim of the program is to train qualified technical employee who have enough and up to date knowledge on; fruit, grape, olive plants growing, reproduction, and cultural maintenance (irrigation, fertilization, plant protection, pruning, thinning, etc..), nursery tree production and certification techniques, protection of products and marketing issues.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates can work as technicians in Food, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Ministry, private farms, and can establish his own work as a private farmer.

Access to Further Studies
May apply to bachelor´s programs in related fields of study, and gain the title of Agricultural Engineer, provided that the student obtains sufficient score in the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS) administered by the Student Selection Centre.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Students are required to attend classes, practice sessions and examinations. Minimum required attendance is 70 percent for classes and 80 percent for practice sessions. A student who does not fulfil the requirement for attendance is not allowed to take the final examination for the semester concerned. A student in such status is to repeat the course. At least one midterm examination and a final examination are given each semester. Exams are evaluated over 100 points, and both midterm and final exams contribute equally 50% to the final grade of students with the requirement of taking minimum 30 points on the final exam. Students are graded passing letter grades of AA, BA, BB, CB and CC when the requirements are achieved, for those who are granted conditional passing grades of DC and DD are required to have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in order to graduate.

Graduation Requirements
Students which have a minimum cumulative academic degree 2.0 can be graduated if they success the 120 ECTS credit of learning program in total and complete their practical training (internship.)

Facilities
Currently there are three faculty members working in Gemlik Asım Kocabıyık Vocational school and we also have support from Faculty of Agriculture. Our program has the facilities as, laboratories, greenhouse and gardens for the application are also provided students with theoretical and practical possibilities. Our Vocational School is located in 35 km away from Bursa, which is became a brand of olive cultivation, in Uludag University Sunğipek-Asım Kocabıyık Campus in Gemlik town. Students using the advantages of the region where we refer to as “black diamonds”, including the cultivation of olive, cultivation of many fruits and vegetables provides an opportunity to see together in a lively manner with farmers. In our school a library, a reading room, a canteen, and two student dormitories are also available.
