General Description
German Language Teacher Education Department has first been established as a unit within Bursa Teachers’ School in 1981 to meet the needs of Turkish Republic for German Language Teacher. In 1982 it was established under the Faculty of Education at Bursa Uludağ University within the re-structuring framework. The department, which has been carrying on its self-designed BA curriculum until 1998, has started to apply a new curriculum in 1998-1999 academic year, which was prepared by HEC. In addition to the 4-year BA program the German Language Department runs a preparation class since 1990-1991 academic year.
German Language Teacher Education Department’s qualification system is tied to the first cycle grading system of the higher education with 240 ECTS points. After finishing the department successfully and acquiring the provided competences a bachelor degree is obtained.

Specific Admission Requirements
The candidates have to own a high school or equivalent degree and pass the student selection examination with a sufficient score. The students enrolled start with preparation class or graduate study according to the results of a placement examination.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

To obtain a bachelor degree the students have to accomplish all the compulsory and elective courses (total 240 ECTS points) of the programme and their weighted grade-point average must be at least 2.0 on the basis of 4.00 system.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
The graduates find employment primarily in public and private schools, national and international business, in the field of public relations, translation offices, tourism and media.

Access to Further Studies
The graduates might attend a master’s degree providing that they score ALES examination eligible and have the required foreign language level.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
The students have to enroll at the beginning of each semester, and attend 70 % of theoretical lessons and 80 % of the practices to take part in the end-term exam. The students are subjected to at least 1 interim audit and 1 end-term exam for each lesson. The final grade consists of 40 % of interim audit’s performance (scores taken from assessment and evaluation instruments such as seminar paper, laboratory test, quiz etc. can be counted in interim audit) and % 60 of end-term exam’s performance. From the end-term exam one must get at least 50. Students that get AA, BA, BB, CB and CC are accepted as successful. DC and DD labels are conditioned successful scores. To be successful in lessons with scores DC and DD the students’ weighted grade-point average must be at least 2.0.

The German Language Teaching program of the Foreign Languages Teaching Department currently has 2 professors, 1 assistant professor, 1 assistant professor, 1 Dr. Lectures, and 1 research assistant. In addition, 1 DAAD Lecturer. The department is in cooperation with institutions such as DAAD. These faculty members have attended international academic conferences for years and have a lot of international publications. The department has a rich library and offers online resources.
