Buyukorhan Vocational School was founded in 2009. Hunting and Wildlife Program within the Department of Forestry was established in 2012. Hunting and Wildlife Program is designed to train needed enforcement personnel in the field of wildlife. The program received its first students in 2012.

This program is subject to short cycle degree system with 120 ECTS credits in Forestry scope of higher education. The students who successfully complete this program will graduate with a degree of competence of Hunting and Wildlife Program.

Short Cycle

To start this program, prospective students must have a high school diploma and must have enough points in the University Student Selection Examination (OSS). The students who deserved being placed at Hunting and Wildlife Program within the Department of Forestry in Buyukorhan Vocational School of Uludag University in the centralized exams conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) in Higer Education Council (YOK) have to make final registration with required documents within the period determined by the Rector. Applications of students who fail to register within the period specified by the Rector will not be considered. University identity cards are given to final registered students.

The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

In order to graduate of Hunting and Wildlife Program, the students must be successful with a total of 120 ECTS course from the compulsory and elective courses and overall weighted grade point average must be at least 2.00 out of 4.00. The student should have served a compulsory internship.

The purpose of this program is to train technical personal that acquired basic knowledge of wildlife science and applications, acts in the field of legislation, taking responsibility for solving problems as a team member, equipped with technical matters, knowledge and skills at the ecological, economic and social protection of forest resources and in the sustainable management of forest resources.

1. To have theoretical and practical level current information in the fields.
2. To understand the basic levels the ecological units and the relationship between them in the structure of ecosystems.
3. To have reached a sufficient level to use of Information and communication technologies.
4. To have on the knowledge and skills to recognize biogeography and wildlife resources of Turkey, and to do eco-sociological comment and statistical evaluation, analyzed on the data obtained from field work in the field.
5. To understand the philosophy on protection, utilization and sustainable development of the protected areas, by learning the basic principles of the identification and management of the Forestry and wildlife.
6. To have on the knowledge and skills about on the variety of wild animals, diseases, conservation, production, monitoring, artificial and natural Hunting Grounds, controlled hunting, marketing methods, in hunting and wildlife tourism.
7. To have on the knowledge and skills on solving the complex and unpredictable problems encountered in applications related to the field, and taking responsibility as a team member to conduct activities for development of employees, and to manage staff under the responsibility.
8. Ability on how to use the necessary tools and equipment, appropriate methods and modern technology in the Forestry and wildlife practices.
9. To comprehend the national and international environmental and forestry policies, laws, and with the obligations other legal documents.
10. To having enough consciousness about on the universality of social rights, and social justice, quality and cultural values and environmental protection, occupational health and safety issues.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Graduates of this program are working as Forestry Conservation Officer the relevant General Directorates of the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs. In addition, they are work as a Hunting and Wildlife Technician in protected areas, zoos, and private hunting grounds.

Access to Further Studies

The students who are successful in the vertical transfer examination(DGS) conducted by ÖSYM after short cycle graduation can become undergraduate students at the department of Forest Engineering and Wildlife Ecology and Managament in the Faculty of Forestry.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Students register for classes at the begining of each semester, and for entry to final exams must be continued to be at least 70% for theoretical courses and at least 80% for practical courses). Students are subjected at least one midterm and final exam for each course. At the end of a semester, the final grade of a course consists of 40% of midterm exam grade and 60% of final exam grade. In the scores obtained from homework, laboratory exam and quiz etc can be included to the midterm exam grade. All examinations are assessed by 100-point scale. A student’s final examination point must be at least 50 of the scale. AA, BA, BB, CB and CC are passing grade levels. DC or DD are conditional passing levels. Should a student’s weighted grade point average is 2, she or he deserves being taken into account as successful for courses at DC or DD levels too.

Facilities

Buyukorhan Vocational High School was founded at Büyükorhan County which is located at a distance of 86 km at southwest of Bursa City, in 2009. Buyukorhan Vocational Higer Schools continues education activities at 3-storey building with 1595 m2 closed area. There are two permanent Lecturers, 8 classrooms (each one a capacity of 30 students), 2 computer labs, and an application lab.
