International Relations
General Description

Brief History
The department of international relations, established as a part of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Science of Uludağ University and begun to receive bachelor students in 1982, has thousands of graduates today. The aims of the department has a master program in collaboration with the institute of social sciences is to comprehend the issues in international politics by giving special emphasis to Turkish Foreign Policy, to grasp Turkey´s national interests, and to enlighten scientists and public opinion in this direction.
Parallel to the enlargement in the meaning of international relations together with the globalization process, the program of the department is being continuously updated. In this sense, the students are provided with the necessary abilities for their carrier plans both by compulsory and selective courses in PhD level.

As the program is completed successfully and program’s qualifications are met, PhD degree is achieved in the field ofinternational relations.

Specific Admission Requirements
Students are admitted to our Institute according to their LES scores, transcripts and interview (oral examination) scores. Information on interviews (the quota of programs, dates and places of interview) is announced in advance, and it is ensured that all related is informed. For admittance to post-graduate programs, Grade Point Average and the result of interview may be taken into consideration in addition to the LES score. All matters related to this decision and the effect of other documents sought at the calculation of success score (letters of recommendation, a written composition on why the applicant seeks post-graduate education, international standard examinations, etc.) is decided by the Administrative Board upon suggestions from the heads of relevant sub-departments has been taken into consideration, and announced in respect to the methods stated in Article 3. Evaluation of examination results is as follows: LES Score 50% Interview 30% Official Transcript 20% In case the number of admitted students for a given program is less than 5, that program may not be opened. Registered students must follow the announcements from our notice boards, in order not to be unjustly treated.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students should fulfill 60 ECTS which has been predetermined at department programme including must and elective courses, students should be successful in thesis presentation. In addition, for PhD degree students should also pass the comprehensive examination.

Profile of The Programme
The members of the department have devoted their selves to educate patriotic individuals who have global concerns, equipped with modern knowledge and culture; have abilities in communicating, researching, analyzing, coping with the problems, have leadership features, making research and have a duty to transfer the findings to the people in global standards. In this sense, the students are provided with the necessary abilities for their carrier plans both by compulsory and selective courses.

Key Learning Outcomes & Classified & Comparative
1. 1. Being able to improve and broaden the advanced level of contemporary knowledge in the field of international relations to an expert level through a unique vision and research practice and to come up with peculiar definitions that will break new grounds in science.
2. 2. Being able to use and evaluate the expert level knowledge on international relations, diplomatic history, international law and international political economy that are required in experts and researchers who are much needed by the public and private sectors.
3. 3. Being able to research, critically analyze and evaluate an original topic in the field of international relations.
4. 4. Being able to publish at least one scientific article related to the field of international relations in a peer-reviewed journal.
5. 5. Being able to develop new ideas and to generate solutions with a leadership attitude in the field of international relations.
6. 6. Being able to identify the shortcomings of the field of international relations and to develop new and creative ideas and methods.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Besides the academic life, the graduates are employed as specialists primarily for Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other related Ministries and institutions in public sector, and as managers in the departments of international trade and international relations of the private firms that operate in various kinds of sectors like automotive, food, logistics, banking and etc.

Access to Further Studies
Graduates, who have successfully completed PhD degree, providing at least minimum acceptable ALES (Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam) score and have a sufficient command on a foreign language, may apply to post-PhD programmes in Turkey and abroad.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Each student has to register for the classes at the beginning of the term, and she/he has to attend at least 70% of the classes to be able to enter the final exam. Students are made to take at least one final examination for each of the courses during a semester. The final grade for success is calculated by taking in account 100%. All exams are assessed over a total of 100. Minimum successful grade is 75 (CB) for PhD program.

Graduation Requirements
The aim of PhD program is to enable students acquire the ability to conduct academic research leading to the acquisition, evaluation and interpretation of information gained. PhD program consists of total of 60 ECTS including minimum 10 courses, 1 seminaires and a thesis. In addition, students have to pass the comprehensive exam. The appointment of a thesis supervisor requires the formal approval of the relevant administrative board. In case the nature of the thesis topic requiring more than one supervisor, a joint-supervisor may be appointed. A student enrolled in PhD program is obliged to submit his/her thesis in the format specified by the relevant committee and defend his/her thesis orally against an examining jury. Following the thesis defence, the examining jury decides by absolute majority whether to accept, reject or require revision of the thesis. Within three days following the thesis defence, the relevant institute is notified on the decision by the relevant department, with a written report.

Facilities
Education language is Turkish in the Department. A library, reading room, and a computer lab is avaible for students´ use. Students have the opportunity of studying at contracting universities during at most two semesters within the Erasmus and Farabi programmes.
In the Department, at present there are seven professors, four associate professors, one assistant professors, three research assistants, and three project assistants on duty.
