General Description
B.U.U. State Conservatory was founded in 1998. Master programs of Music Department (for composition) were provided at the Institute of Social Sciences in 2003.
The master program for Composition at the Music Department is under the system of second cycle with its 120 ECTS. When the program qualifications are attained for the whole program a master degree is gained in Music (Composition)

Specific Admission Requirements
The graduates of State Conservatory and Music and Stage Arts Faculty of te related brances are allowed to apply to this programme provided that his diploma degree.
The candidates (presentation of the works he/she wrote) artistic performance and background scores must also be at least 70 in the entrance exam.
However they must be proficient in English (at least 50 points for UÜDS or YDS or the equivalent points at the international language examinations accepted by OSYM). A TÖMER certificate for TUrkish language is required for the acceptance of foreign students (except the one’s who studied at a school in Turkey).
ALES certificate is not an obligation.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To get a master degree at the Music Department (for composition) the student has to complete all the obligatory and elective courses successfully with 27 credit (53 ECTS) and has to get 70 points over 100 for all of the courses. The students who present the performance program and the written work succesfully in front of a jury selected are given the Master diploma of Music at the end of the program.

Profile of The Programme
The aim of Music Department Composition master program for composition is to provide progressive artists having the qualities of creativeness and being good performers, accepted at national and international level and being able to use the acquired knowledge and skills gained at undergraduate level of one’s own major at the master level.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
The graduates can work at the orchestras such as symphony or opera as conductors or composers and critics at home or abroad depending on the performance level of one’s own major as well as being able to work as a teaching staff at various universities providing music or performing arts education

Access to Further Studies
The students who have completed the master level at the required level and have the necessary creativity or one’s own works related to composition as well as being proficient at a foreign language can continue their education at doctorate (proficiency in art) programs.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Every student has to register for the courses at the begining of each semester and has to attend at least %70 of the theoretical lessons and %80 of the practice lessons in order to be ble to take the final examinations of the term. They have to take at least one final examination.
The examinations are graded over 100 points. The final examination at the obligatory courses of the semester where the student has to present his/her creativity and performance is held by a comittee of at least 3 academicians. He/she has to get minimum 70 so as to be succesfull for all of the courses and AA, BA, BB, CB, CC letter grades are considered as successful for each of the courses.

Graduation Requirements
To complete the program succesfully the student has to succeed at all of the courses and a seminar, complete the thesis successfully to graduate from the program (120 ECTS).(corresponding to 120 ECTS)

At the composition program of the music department, the students are trained mostly by experienced well known artists (tutors), and the students are provided with the opportunity to make use of their experiences and archives. The Conservatory library which is rich enough can be referred to as a resource for scores of pieces to make research, as well.
The students have the chance have their compositions played by student orchestra or Academic Orchestra, but also to attend other national or international facilities organized by the Conservatory.
The Conservatory building provides various opportunities to progress in the quality of education. The financial support of our university for this building and the interior design is a significant advantage of this program.
