Private Security and Protection Program
General Description

Brief History
Vocational School of Social Sciences, Private Security and Protection Program has been rendering education since 2005-2006 academic years.

Qualification Awarded
Upon successfully completing the 120-ACTS credit program and acquiring the program qualifications, the students graduate with private security short cycle degree.

Specific Admission Requirements
The applicants who have high school or its equivalent diplomas are placed by OSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center) in accordance with the applicable legislation of YOK (Higher Education Council). In respect to specific requirements, male applicants are to be at least 1.75 cm, and female applicants are to be at least 1.65 cm. In addition, they must obtain a medical board report from a state hospital and a document of criminal record from the nearest courthouse.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
In order to be able to receive a short cycle degree in Private Security, it is required to successfully complete all the compulsory and elective courses. The students should also have a grade point average of at least 2.00 over 4.00 GPA for graduation.

Profile of The Programme
The aim of Program is to train individuals who have effective communication skills and the fundamental qualities and also who are able to use computer programs related to their field.
Private Security Program provides a two-year training following high school education. Formal Program accepts 30 students. The students are required to complete a 30-work day internship program, and required to take and successfully complete all the compulsory courses in the program. They are also required to take and successfully complete elective courses in II., III., and IV. Semesters as well as compulsory courses.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
The trainees who graduate from Private Security Program have the opportunity to work at private sectors, such as banks, factories etc., and the public sector provided that they acquire a valid and admissible point from KPSS exam (Public Personnel Selection Examination).

Access to Further Studies
The graduates who successfully complete their short cycle training have the opportunity to apply to related undergraduate programs on condition that they acquire a sufficient mark from External Transfer Exam executed by OSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
A student has to register at the beginning of the semester and has to attend at least 70% of the theoretical lessons and 80% of the practices in order to be able to enter the final exam of that particular course. The students are given at least one mid-term exam and one final exam. Mid-term exam (the grades given by assignments, lab exams and quizzes may also be added to mid-term grade) consists 50% of the pass mark and final exam consists the other 50%. All the exams are evaluated out of 100. The students have to acquire at least 30 points from the final exam. A student who has acquired AA, BA, BB, CB or CC as the pass mark from any course is considered as successful for that particular lesson. DC and DD are conditional successful grades. A student has to obtain 2.0 GPA (General Point Average) in order to be considered as successful for a course which they have received DC or DD as pass mark.

Graduation Requirements
A student has to pass all the courses (a total of 120 ACTS), obtain at least 2.00 GPA over 4.00, avoid FF or FD for any courses and complete the compulsory internship in order to be able to successfully complete the program.

Facilities
The training in the vocational school takes place in technologically equipped classes (projection, smart board, internet connection), computer lab with internet connection, library and conference hall. Additionally, seminars, in which experts and managers from the business world conveyed their knowledge and experience, are hold and technical visits are organized with the aim of seeing and learning the practices in the businesses on site.
