Department of Archeology was established in 2005 in Bursa Uludağ University. Undergraduate, master and PhD. educations are still active in our department. 3 professor, 2 associate professor, 1 lecturer and 5 research assistants are working in our department. In the University our department assumes 2 research centers management. These are Mosaic Research Center AIEMA-TURKEY and The Research center of Archaeology. Our department has important projects, which are still ongoing. These are The Corpus of Turkiye Mosaics, Bursa and districts archaeological survey and the Underwater Excavation at Basilica in the İznik Lake (Prof.Dr. Mustafa ŞAHİN) Apollonia a.R. Qualification Awarded
The Bachelor´s Degree in Archaeology ( first cycle in Archaeology ) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum.

Specific Admission Requirements
Students who have a high school diploma or equivalent and want to enroll in the Archaeology undergraduate program must complete the processes determined by the The Measuring, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) and pass the exams. Students list their department preferences according to the scores they receive as a result of the exam and send their preference forms to ÖSYM. ÖSYM receives all applications, groups the applications according to their score type, ranks the scores from highest to lowest, lists all available programs according to the preferred score type and places students in one of the programs they prefer, provided that the quota and program-specific conditions are met. Students placed by ÖSYM gain the right to enroll in the program. The registration calendar, the documents requested during registration and the principles to be followed are announced and implemented by Bursa Uludağ University Student Affairs Department. Candidate students who complete the registration procedures become students of our department and benefit from all student rights prescribed by the legislation.

The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To obtain Bachelors Degree in Archeology field, it is reguire that weighted grade avarage of a student must be at least 2.0 points out of 4.00, and that compulsory and elective courses (total 240 ECTS) in Archeology program must be successfully completed.

Profile of The Programme
The main purpose of the Archaeology Department is to provide our country, which hosts the rich historical and cultural heritage of the world, with trained staff, researchers and scientists in the field and to carry the science of archaeology to the forefront in the country and the world through projects carried out jointly with scientists from various countries. In our department, intensive theoretical education is provided for a total of 10 semesters, including two semesters of compulsory German preparatory class, and there is also a compulsory internship to be done in excavations or museums. The mission of the Archaeology Department is to train expert researchers in the field, as well as to lead the research of the largely unexplored areas of Bursa and its surroundings from prehistory to the Ottoman Period, to introduce it to the world of science and culture through publications, and to carry out the necessary research and publications through the research center established in the ancient mosaics area, which is very little researched in our country despite its importance. The vision of the Archaeology Department is to carry our country´s archaeology to the forefront through projects carried out jointly with scientists from various countries in different regions. The Main Mission of the Archaeology Department - To provide a qualified education that raises patriotic individuals who have cultural accumulation and communication skills, have advanced research and problem-solving skills, and can lead their environment in the protection of tangible and intangible cultural assets; - To prepare the necessary infrastructure for the social, cultural, economic, scientific, technological development of the nation and humanity, etc. with the research it conducts, and to apply and disseminate the information it produces; - In addition to general archaeology, to scientifically research mosaic art, which is rarely researched in our country despite its importance, and to train experts and scientists in this field, to scientifically research cultural assets found underwater on the coasts and inland waters of our country, and to train experts and scientists in this field; to give priority to the research of the prehistoric to present section of the South Marmara region and its surroundings, where our University is also located, and to introduce them to the world of science and culture with publications, and to support these studies with the Archaeology Research Research and Application Center and Mosaic Research Research and Application Center founded within our University.

Access to Further Studies
Candidates who successfully complete their undergraduate education can study in postgraduate programs in their own fields or related fields, provided that they receive sufficient scores from the ALES (Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam) exam and have sufficient foreign language knowledge. Our postgraduate education programs are carried out within the scope of the Archaeology Department program, which is formed by all faculty members of our department within the Social Sciences Institute of our university. Within this scope, students are accepted to the Thesis Master´s (formal and second education), Non-thesis Master´s and Doctorate programs. In addition, education is provided in the Underwater Archaeology Thesis Master´s program and the Medieval Archaeology Thesis Master´s program. Students who successfully complete the Thesis Master´s program will receive the "Archaeology (Thesis Master´s)" degree; Students who successfully complete the Underwater Archaeology Thesis Master´s program will receive the "Underwater Archaeology (Thesis Master´s)" degree; Students who successfully complete the Medieval Archaeology Thesis Master´s program will receive the "Medieval Archaeology (Thesis Master´s)" degree; Students who successfully complete the doctoral program are entitled to graduate with the degree of “Archaeology (PhD)”.
In addition, undergraduate students have the right to participate in double major programs opened by the higher education institutions they are studying in. Students enrolled in double major programs can take courses from two diploma programs simultaneously and receive two separate undergraduate diplomas if they are successful.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Students are subject to a midterm and a final exam every semester. In some courses, midterm studies; projects, seminars, quizzes, homework, etc. may be applied upon the request of the instructor. Midterm exams, midterm studies, and final exam grades are given out of 100 points.
One midterm exam is mandatory for a course every semester, and the other is given as a second midterm exam or midterm studies, depending on the instructor´s preference. The contribution of the midterm exam to the letter grade is 40%. If the midterm study or the second midterm exam is to be applied, the contribution of these exams and the midterm exam to the letter grade is 20%.
In order to take the final exam of a course, it is mandatory to be registered for that course and to attend at least 70% of the courses taken for the first time and at least 80% of the practical and/or laboratory courses. Students who fail to meet these requirements are not allowed to take the final exam. This student is given a (D) absent letter grade.
The contribution of the final exam to the letter grade is 60%. There is a requirement to score at least 50 out of 100 in the final exam. Students who do not take the final exam or who cannot score at least 50 points in this exam will not be included in the evaluation of their midterm and midterm studies and these students will be evaluated with the letter grade FF. In order to take the make-up exam; it is mandatory to meet the requirements for taking the final exam of these courses in the academic year in which the exams will be held. Students who cannot take the make-up exams will not be given the right to take a make-up exam, except in cases of overlap in the make-up exams.
The successful completion of the “graduation thesis” and “poster presentations” that students are required to prepare within the scope of Undergraduate Research I-II courses taken in the 7th and 8th semesters, in the presence of department faculty members and students within the scope of the “Science Days” event, is one of the concrete evidences of this process. In addition, the measurement and evaluation method applied within the scope of compulsory internship in relevant units such as excavations, survey research, state or private museums, conservation boards for 30 working days in the following or following summer semesters, covering the 3rd and 4th semesters, is to document the internship period by completing it in days, to present an official document approved by the employer stating that you are successful, and to pass the interview of the departmental internship committee.

Graduation Requirements
Successfully completing all compulsory and elective courses in the program for a total of 240 ECTS, successfully completing the compulsory internship, and having a weighted grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 are the qualification requirements for graduation. Our students who successfully complete this program are entitled to receive a bachelor’s degree with the degree of “Archaeology (Undergraduate)” and the title of “Archaeologist”.
