General Description
The Department of Pharmacology was founded in 1974, when Bursa Medical School started education as a faculty of Istanbul University. Graduate studies were then initiated, and to date 8 doctorate students completed their studies with success and received PhD degrees.

Specific Admission Requirements
-Applicants must hold a Masters degree in Health Sciences or Masters degree in Pharmacology
-Applicants with a Masters degree must have scored at least the baseline ALES score on numerical scale that is determined by the Uludag University Senate
-Applicants with a medical school degree must present either the ALES or the TUS record. Applicants presenting a TUS record must have scored at least 50 points in basic medical sciences section. ALES or TUS record is not a pre-requisite for applicants who already holds a graduate degree in another medical field
-Applicants must have scored at least the baseline score in UDS, KPDS, TOEFL or one of the equivalent exams that Higher Education Council of Turkey accepts or in Foreign Language Exam prepared by Uludag University Vocational School of Foreign Languages
-Applicants other than Turkish nationality must hold a Turkish proficiency degree approved by TOMER and the ALES record or a GRE, GMAT or similar exam record that is accepted as internationally equivalent by Higher Education Council of Turkey

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
-Applicants must take at least 8 courses with a minimum of 24 credits and a maximum of 30 credits, give at least one seminar during course and thesis periods, succeed in thesis proficiency exam, perform thesis studies, succeed in the thesis defense exam, and make publication in the internationally-indexed journals.
-Applicants must score at least 75 out of 100 in order to pass compulsory and optional courses. Maximum length of the education is 12 semesters.
-Total ECTS credits are 240 credits.

Profile of The Programme
The objective of the programme is to raise individuals equipped with a scientific mind and ethical values who can make significant contributions to universal science by using pharmacology knowledge in drug industry, combining abilities in pharmacology with knowledge of other disciplines and making interpretations to produce new insights and using appropriate methods to solve a scientific problem.
One of the faculty members in the department is assigned to the Graduate student in order to advise during course and thesis periods. The student picks courses under the consultancy of his advisor. After completion of courses and seminars, the student becomes eligible to take the thesis proficiency exam. After succeeding in this exam, a thesis committee is formed and the student presents his/her thesis to this committee. The student starts performing the studies of his/her thesis project after it is approved by the thesis committee.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Individuals with a PhD degree in Pharmacology may be employed by drug industry, contracted research institutions, drug licensing or similar sections of Ministry of Health and Drug Management Committees of healthcare centers.

Access to Further Studies
Upon fulfilling requirements, individuals with a PhD degree in Pharmacology may be appointed to faculty member positions in universities.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Attendance is compulsory for 70% of theoretical courses and 80% of practical courses in Graduate students. Courses do not have a midterm exam. The student is expected to score at least 75 out of 100 in final exam at end of the term.

Graduation Requirements
In order to receive a Pharmacology PhD, the student is expected to pass all the courses, give a total of two seminars; one during course period and the other during thesis period, pass the thesis proficiency exam, complete thesis studies and succeed in the thesis defense exam. The student is expected to be a co-author in a publication with his/her field of interest in order to be eligible to take the thesis defense exam.

Faculty members of our department comprise 4 full professors and 3 associate professors equipped with internationally-acknowledged skills and knowledge in his/her area of research. All faculty members in our department work in a full-time basis which enables active contribution to Masters studies.
Our department has several laboratories with ultimate devices enabling studies of different interests. Major laboratories include hemodynamics, pain and analgesy, psychopharmacology, neuropharmacology and analysis laboratories.
