General Description
After the establishment of "Bursa Faculty of Medicine" in 1970, Department of Deontology took its place among other departments. The lectures of Bursa Faculty of Medicine began in 1970-1971 academic years and the first students attended the classes in Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. Bursa Faculty of Medicine continued its education in Duaçınarı in Bursa in 1974-1975 academic years. There were no lecturers in the Department of Deontology till 1980. In 1980 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Demirhan Erdemir assigned to the Department of Deontology. Before 1980, Deontology classes were given by lecturers of Department of Public Health. Four graduate studies were conducted at the Department of Deontology since 1980. One research assistant took education at the Department between 1984-1987. The doctorate program went through by the Higher Education Council in 2001. Two doctoral students completed their doctorate from 2001. Three doctoral students are still continuing their education.
The department has the third cycle of higher education degree system with 180-240 ECTS credits in Deontology. After completing the program successfully and qualified at the key learning outcomes, a PhD degree will be provided in Deontology.

Specific Admission Requirements
With meeting the requirements of the 5th decision of Uludag University Senate dated April 1, 2010 and numbered 2010-04 and Uludag University, Graduate Education and Training Regulation for Graduate Education, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry graduates can apply to the doctoral program of Deontology.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To receive a PhD degree in the doctoral program of Deontology, required and elective courses with less than a total of 24 credits, no more than 30 credits must be taken with at least 75 points out of 100 points from at least eight courses with a complete of 180-240 ECTS; seminars one for each semesters during the education and thesis periods must be given; at least 75 points out of 100 points from written and oral exams in the comprehensive examination must be received; thesis proposal and thesis defense must be made in at least 6 to 12 semesters.

Profile of The Programme
It’s aimed to provide the experience in comparing and interpreting the developments in medicine and medical applications throughout history, making scientific researches complied with ethical rules and legal regulations, knowing the national and international legal regulations issues related to health law, realizing the medical ethics principles and developing a proposal for the solution of the problems that may arise in the patient-physician relationship depending on these principles, protecting the health professionals from malpractice, negligence and violation of publicity with the sense of professional responsibility with the doctoral program.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
At the end of the period of the courses of the doctorate program, the exams are made quarterly. These examinations can be written, oral-written or applied. The students must score at least 75 points out of 100 points of these examinations.

Graduation Requirements
Candidates are expected to complete all the requirements (courses, credits, exams, thesis defenses, etc) according to the related articles in Uludag University, Graduate Education and Training Regulation and after they will be awarded to the PhD degree.
