General Description

Brief History
The Department of Political Science and Public Administration was founded in 1982 within the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences. Our department has an alumni population of approximately 5000 at the undergraduate level.
The Department of Political Science and Public Administration is composed of four sub-departments. They are:
- Political and Social Sciences
- Administrative Sciences
- Urbanization and Environmental Problems
- Law.

Qualification Awarded
The department of Political Science and Public Administration is subject to 240 ECTS credits in the fields of administrative and political sciences. When the program is completed successfully and programs qualifications are met, Bachelor degree is achived in the field of political science and public administration.

Specific Admission Requirements
Candidates have to have a high school diploma or its equivalent and to get an adequate score in the University Entrance Exam.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students should fulfill 240 ECTS which has been predetermined and shown in the department programme including must and elective courses. In addition, Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) must be at least 2.00/4.00 to earn bachelor degree

Profile of The Programme
The basic aim of the Department of Political Science Public Administration is to provide those individuals who are to take charge in different managerial positions, especially in the area of public administration, with the required academic and intellectual knowledge as well as the ability for free and critical thinking. During the four-year undergraduate programme of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, courses are offered in the fields of Administrative Sciences, Political and Social Sciences, Urbanization and Environmental Problems and Law. Besides these main fields, courses related with the disciplines of Public Finance, Economics and Statistics are also offered. 1. Being able to comprehend the basic concepts and theories in the field of public administration.
2. Having the knowledge of public administration, politics, law, economics, public finance, international relations, management and accounting required in a qualified employee who is demanded by the public and private sectors and being able to utilize this knowledge.
3. Analyzing and evaluating hypothetical knowledge as well as offering solutions in the field of public administration.
4. Taking responsibility in studies related to the field of public administration and being able to arrange and independently conduct such studies.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Main institutions offering employment opportunities for the gradutes of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration are: - Prime Ministry and Ministries and their inspection boards and other affiliated institutions at the levels of undersecretary and general directorate. - Other public institutions, - Special Provincial Administrations, - Municipalities and other institutions affiliated with Local Governments, - Public and Private Banks, - Private Sector Institutions and Multinational Corporations.

Access to Further Studies
Graduates, who have successfully completed an undergraduate degree, providing at least minimum acceptable ALES (Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam) score and have a required foreign language score, may apply to graduate programmes in Turkey or abroad.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Each student has to register for the classes at the beginning of the term, and she/ he has to attend at least %70 of the classes to be able to enter the final exam. Students are made to take at least one mid-term and one final examination for each of the courses during a semester. The final grade for success is calculated by taking in account %40 of the mid-term grade and %60 of the final examination grade. Grades taken from the term papers, quizzes etc. can also be included in the calculation of the mid-term examination grade. All exams are assessed over a total of 100. For a student to be included in the Conditional Assessment System she/he needs to get a minimum of 20 as raw final grade and in order to be successful from a class her/his raw final grade must be at least 40. Besides, she/he must get a minimum of 30 as the final examination grade. A student is successful if she/he receives AA, BA, BB, CB and CC as the letter grade from a class. The letter grades of DC and DD stand for conditional success. In these cases, in order for a student to be successful from the class, her/his Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) should be at least 2.0.

Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from the programme, it is required to pass all the courses in the programme (equivalent to total 240 ECTS) and to have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 over 4.00.

Facilities
The education language of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration is Turkish. There is a library, a reading room and a computer room with an open access to the students of the Faculty. Our students can visit foreign and domestic universities, which the Department has an agreement with, for maximum two semesters through the Erasmus and Farabi programmes.
The teaching staff of the Department of Public Administration is comprised of 13 instructors including 4 professors, 3 associate Professor, 6 assistant professors. Besides, there are 4 research assistants.
