Biotechnology Doctorate Program
General Description
Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics was founded in 2011 within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Master´s level education within the department has been available since 2013. The undergraduate program begin to accept students in fall semester of 2014. The course load and course content of the undergraduate and postgraduate programs of the Molecular Biology and Genetics department were modeled after the programs of world´s leading universities. The program includes applied education as well as up-to-date theoretical knowledge in Molecular Biology and Genetics in a manner that will allow students to successfully apply the techniques of the discipline and be accomplished researchers in their areas. Through worldwide student and academician exchange schemes, projects concerning education and research are conducted in partnership with other Molecular Biology and Genetics departments in Turkey and abroad.
The undergraduate degree program in Molecular Biology and Genetics is based on 240 ECTS credits of achievement. Successful graduates of the program, who complete the program requirements, are awarded with a bachelor´s degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics.

Profile of The Programme
Undergraduate program in Molecular Biology and Genetics is a full-time program that comprises a 4 year long curriculum. Compulsory core modules in the first year are basics of Molecular Biology and Genetics, General Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. The second and third years consist of core and elective molecular biology and genetics courses. While organizing the curriculum of the undergraduate program, international standards have been upheld. All of the fourth year courses are electives. Students who complete the Molecular Biology and Genetics undergraduate program will receive a B.Sc. degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics and the title of "Biologist," and are entitled to continue with their studies to gain M.Sc. and PhD degrees at the related institutes in Turkey and abroad. The purpose of the program is to train expert molecular biologists who have grasped the current knowledge and techniques, and acquired research experience in the areas of “Molecular Biology and Genetics”, who are able to produce permanent solutions to current problems using their knowledge in the area, and who are able to serve different sectors.

Access to Further Studies
Graduates, upon successful acquisition of the undergraduate degree, can enter graduate programs as M.Sc. and PhD candidates with the condition of having the minimum required scores in the ALES and foreign language (such as UDS, TOEFL, IELTS, KPDS, etc.) examinations.
11
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Attendance to at least 70% of theoretical courses and at least 80% of practical lab work is mandatory. Those who fulfill the attendance requirement may take the final exam. Students are subjected to at least one midterm and one final exam for each course. Both midterm and final exam contributions are 50% to the final grade. The marks from homework, lab exams, quizzes, etc. can contribute to the midterm score. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. In order to be successful in the undergraduate program, students must score at least 40 points in the final exam. Students who receive one of these grades are considered successful: AA, BA, BB, CB and CC. However, for the students with an overall GPA of at least 2.00, DC and DD grades are treated as conditional passes.
