Painting Program in Art Department
General Description
Art Proficiency Program in Painting Main Art Branch was established in the 2018-2019 academic year within the Institute of Social Sciences. Art Proficiency Program is a doctoral-equivalent higher education program that aims to produce original works of art, acquire superior application and creativity skills, conduct independent research, and achieve new syntheses. The duration of Art Proficiency Program is eight semesters, in accordance with the relevant graduate education and teaching regulations, with a maximum completion period of twelve semesters.

Specific Admission Requirements
To be accepted into the Art Proficiency Program, applicants must have: 1-A master´s degree in Fine Arts (with a minimum grade of 75), 2-Sufficient foreign language skills (UÜDS, KPDS, ÜDS: minimum 55, TOEFL IBT: minimum 55, TOEFL CBT: minimum 134, TOEFL PBT: minimum 453, or equivalent scores). Foreign nationals (excluding those currently studying in Turkey) must provide a TÖMER certificate demonstrating proficiency in Turkish. 3-The entrance exam interview performance must be at least 75/100 points, and the weighted average, calculated as 25% of the master´s degree GPA, 25% of the foreign language score, and 50% of the interview exam score, must be at least 70/100 points. 4-There is no ALES requirement.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To obtain an Art Proficiency/Doctorate degree in the Painting Main Art Branch, students must complete all compulsory and elective courses in the program with a minimum grade of 75 out of 100 and earn a total of 240 ECTS credits. Upon completion of the program, students who successfully defend their thesis/dissertation and present their artistic works before a selected jury are awarded a Art Proficiency/Doctorate degree in the Painting Main Art Branch.

TThe Painting Main Art Branch in the Art Proficiency program, aims to provide students with the knowledge and experience necessary to contribute to the field of art and design culture through the original and innovative works they produce and the theoretical research and scientific activities they carry out.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Students who successfully complete the Art Proficiency Program can share their knowledge in the field of painting, transfer it, establish connections with other disciplines, and reflect this in their own work. They can work as independent artists or collaborate with galleries, serve as consultants, coordinators, or managers in art institutions and civil initiatives, work as editors or writers for publications in these fields, and continue their careers as artist-scholars in university faculties.

Access to Further Studies
Students who graduate from this program can apply for postdoctoral programs depending on their areas of expertise.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
In order for each student to register for courses at the beginning of the semester and take the final exam, they must have attended at least 70% of the theoretical courses and at least 80% of the practical courses. Students are required to take at least one final exam for each course. The end-of-semester exam may be conducted using assessment methods such as written exams, report presentations, art and/or design works, and/or projects. All exams are graded on a scale of 100 points. To pass a course, students must earn at least 75 points and receive one of the following letter grades: AA, BA, BB, or CB. Students must retake compulsory courses in which they fail. If they fail an elective course, they may take another elective course in its place with the approval of their advisor. Seminar courses, areas of specialization, and thesis work are not credited under the local credit system and are evaluated as either successful or unsuccessful.
The Art Proficiency Program consists of a minimum of eight courses, seminars, proficiency exams, specialization courses, and thesis work, totaling 240 ECTS credits, provided that each academic year includes at least 60 ECTS credits. Students who have completed their credits, successfully passed their courses, and met the conditions determined by the Institute´s Administrative Board must take the qualification exam by the end of the fourth semester at the latest.
A student preparing a thesis in the Art Proficiency/Doctorate program must complete the results obtained in accordance with the writing rules accepted by the Institute of Social Sciences, present the art work in the number and quality/originality specified by the advisor to the jury, and defend the thesis orally before the jury.

Graduation Requirements
To graduate from the Painting Main Art Branch Art Proficiency Program, students must pass all courses available in the program, earn a total of 240 ECTS credits, and successfully complete their project report/thesis.
