19 Objective of the Course: This course is designed to help students gain fundamental concepts in art; conception, perception, and application of the basic elements in the artistic language of art through examination, research, and application; analysis and criticism of art works; improving creative thought.

21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To develop an introductory knowledge of terminology as it relates to art and design;
2 Develop a working knowledge and appreciation of art in a historical and contemporary sense.;
3 Develop technical skills used to experiment and build an individual artistic repertoire, including but not limited to drawing, painting, ect…;
4 Develop strategies for the visual, and technical/conceptual integration of design into your own artwork or vice versa.;
5 Explore conceptual ideas for alternate adaptations- looking at architecture, nature and other “non-art” areas for inspiration and different strategies.;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Introduction SHAPE / VOLUME Introduction Volume/mass, Naturalism and distortion, Naturalism and idealism, Abstraction, Nonobjective shapes, Rectilinear and curvilinear, Positive / Negative Shapes; Integration, Confusion. Studio practices in shape / volume.
2 Assesment and critics on studio practices of the students in shape / volume. Continue to studio practices in shape / volume.
3 TEXTURE Introduction Tactile texture; Collage Visual Texture; Trompe L’oeil, Texture and pattern. Studio practices in texture.
4 Assesment and critics on studio practices of the students in texture. Continue to studio practices in texture.
5 ILLUSION OF SPACE Introduction Devices to show depth; Sizes, Overlapping, vertical location, aerial perspective, linear perspectie, one-point perspective, two-point perspective, multipoint perspective Amplified Perspective, Multiple perspevtive, Isometric projection, Open Form / Closed form, Transparency; Equivocal Space, Spatial puzzless. Studio practices in Illusion of Space.
6 Midterm exam + Course review Studio practices in illusion of motion.
7 ILLUSION OF MOTION Introduction Anticipated Movement, Ways to Suggest Motion; Figure repeated, blurred outlines, multiple Image. Studio practices in value.
8 VALUE Introduction Value pattern, Value as emphasis, Value and space, Techniques. Studio practices in color characteristics
9 Introduction Color Characteristics, Properties of color; Hue, value, Intensity / complementary colors. Studio practices in visual color mixing and cool / warm colors.
10 Visual color mixing, Cool / Warm Colors, Studio practices in color as emphasis, color and balance
11 Color as Emphasis. Color and Balance Studio practices in color and space.
12 Color and space, Studio practices in color schemes
13 Color Schemes; Monochromatic, Analogous, Complementary, Triadic Color discord and vibrating colors, Color Uses; Local, optical, arbitrary. Studio practices in emotional color, color symbolism, color versus value.
