19 Objective of the Course: The purpose of the course is to teach how to approach to the text of play in terms of analytical perspective; features of play in terms of core and form, estimating author and his era. The course aims at educating the students to the level where they can discuss artistry of any play.

1 To have information about Russian Formalism ;
2 To recognize structuralism and semiotic analysis. ;
3 To have information abaut deconstruction and Derrida's critical thoughts.;
4 To recognize the critical theory about the text. ;
5 To have information about reception aesthetics .;
6 To recognize feminist criticism.;
7 To be able to correlate critical theories with each other;

Week Theoretical Practical
1 Russian Formalism
2 The ideas under the title of structuralism and semiotics .
3 To read and discuss articles which are examples of structuralist analysis.
4 To read and discuss articles which are examples of semiotics analysis
5 Deconstruction and Derrida's thoughts.
6 Critical theories about the text: New Criticism
7 Critical theories about the text: Structuralist Criticism, Archetypal Criticism
8 General Assessment (Mid-term exam)
9 From reader-centered critical theories, Emotional Response Theory and aesthetic life concept.
10 Reception aesthetics .
11 Through Brecht's Antigone adaptation,reception and adaptation relation, reception of Western drama in our country, audiences' reception of play.
12 Feminist Critical Theory
13 Feminist critique of Sevim Burak's play, ''İşte Baş İşte Gövde İşte Kanatlar'', examples from feminist texts.
