19 Objective of the Course: Understanding the fundamental questions behind art and creation. This course focuses on aesthetics and philosophy of art in relation to questions such as what is art?, how is it used as a human expression? What is the place and importance of art in human history and civilizations. In this respect, this course also teaches about major art theories and philosophies in the history starting from ancient times.

3 To learn major art theories as different approaches.;
4 To understand art and contextual relationships in human society, such as culture, politics, traditions.;
5 To learn and discuss philosophies that has meaning to understand art.;
6 To be able to make connections between human creation and other realms. ;
7 To be a conscious and sensible art audience, art teacher, or an art professional as understanding historical, philosophical, social, cultural, within complexity of art creation. ;
8 To be able to interpret and judge art within philosophical and cultural understandings as well as formal approaches.;

Week Theoretical Practical
1 Course Introduction. Materials and resources explained. What is art? How it was created as human expression? Informing about the course content, applications and practices to be studied during the term.
2 Ancient philosophies. Plato and Mimesis theory. Platonic Realism.
3 Ancient philosophies. Aristo and Mimesis theory. Epicurean philosophy.
4 Renaissance philosophy and aesthetics. Realistic idealism.
5 Social Realism and Socialist Realism.
6 Postmodernism and Critical Theory.
7 Marxist Aesthetics and Marxism.
8 Marxist Aesthetics and Marxism.
9 Art theories: 1. Realist art theories. 2. Expressionist theories. 3. Formal art theories. 4. Functionalist art theories.
10 Kant Aesthetics.
11 Hegel Aesthetics: Metaphysics of beauty.
12 Darwinian Theory of Beauty.
