19 Objective of the Course: To be able to sing, analyse, dictate and sight -read the selected pieces considering musical properties.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development The students gains the skills of reading scores, musical analysing and singing or writing the scores of melodies heard.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To be able to practice terms of tempo, loudnes and expression while singing solfeges (pieces);
2 To be able to read various rhythmic structures used in simple and compound meters.;
3 To be able to indicate modulations in the pieces dictated by defining modulation concept.;
4 To be able to use the cumulative knowledge of music theory gained while dictating the homphonic and polyphonic melodies heard.;
5 To be able to recognize various modes by defining the concepts of mode and modality.;
6 To be able to read the melodies written in F clef, G and C clef including the knowledge gained in music theory.;
7 To be able to sight read the pieces including the knowledge of music theory gained.;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Structure elements of music, melody and rhythm elements
2 C clef, pieces written in C clef on the 1th line of the stave
3 Diatonic and chromatic scales.
4 Rhythms formed by different divisions of beat units in simple and compound meters, introduction to unequal beats.
5 Modulation to close and distant keys.
6 C clef, pieces written in C clef on the 3th line of the stave.
7 Switches between simple and compound meters.
8 Reading and dictating the pieces including the information learned - Mıdterm exam
9 Types of penthotonic scales and sample melodies
10 Concept of mode, structure of modes, antique Anatolian modes (dor, phyrig, lyd)
11 Medieval modes (dorian, phrygian and lydian), samples from the repertoire
12 Symbols of musical form, structure of the pieces being sung.
13 Formal analysis of the pieces selected among the repertoire
14 A general overlook at concepts learned through pieces selected among the repertoire.

Measurement and Evaluation Techniques Used in the Course Dictation, solfege reading and analysing, sight singing, assignment.
Information Evaluation; is done by performing intonation, phrasing and musical expression, structural/formal analysing, of the solfeges voiced, dictation of the pieces played and deciphering.
