19 Objective of the Course: At the end of the curriculum, the student is expected to have acquired knowledge of the contribution of Turks to science, especially after converting to Islam, considering some scholars, such as Kharazmi, Avicenna, Biruni, Ulug Beg. In addition, it is aimed to instruct Turkish thought from Ottomon period to Republic of Turkey

21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To analyze the concept of thinking thoroughly;;
2 To evaluate the scientific actions performed by Turks;
3 To examine intellectual-scientific products after Turks’ conversion to Islam;
4 To evaluate the works of scholars in the classical age.;
5 To interpret construction process of schools in Seljuk empire period;
6 To infer the elements of Ottoman thougth;
7 To interpret scientific activities of late Ottoman period and concurrently in the Western World.;
8 To compare concepts and thinkers of literature, art and science from tanzimat to republic period.;;
9 To evaluate the intellectual activities underlying the modern thougth;;
10 To interpret the view of thought in the republic period.;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 The analysis of concepts of thought and science.
2 Turkish conversion to Islam and its causes and results.
3 The first Turkish intellectual works: Divan Lugat al-Turk, Dede Korkut, Kutadgu Bilig.
4 Kharizmi, al-Farabi, Biruni, Avicenna: scholars of the classical age and their works.
5 The construction process of madrasah in Seljuk period and its results.
6 Thought and science in the early Ottoman period.
7 Renaissance and the Enlightenment in the West.
8 The emergence and prominent representatives of the Modern science.
9 Intellectual activity in the Ottoman Empire during the eighteenth-nineteenth century
10 The influence of Modern thought on the Ottoman Empire
11 The history of thought in the Tanzimat reform era
12 The influence of modern thought on the literature, art and science
13 The relationship between religion and science from Tanzimat to the republic period.
14 The main Dynamics of thought in the republic period.
