Brief History
The Department of Economics, located in the institute of social sciences, founded in 1974. Department of Economics consist of four departments.These departments are Economic Theory, Economic Policy, Economic Development and International Economics and Economic History.

Qualification Awarded
Department of Economics is subject to between 90 and 120 ECTS credits for master’s degree in economics. After the program is completed succesfully and program’s qualifications are met, master’s degree is taken in economics.

Specific Admission Requirements
1-Bachelor’s degree. 2- Candidates must get sufficient score from Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam(ALES). For the department of Economics, Candidates must take at least 55 points from ALES. For foreign students, Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam and other international exams result such as GRE, GMAT etc. are accepted and grade is not required. Candidates must have sufficient language skills(at least 50 points from UÜDS, KPDS, ÜDS or at least 50 points from TOEFL IBT or at least 130 points from TOEFL CBT or at least 450 points from TOEFL PBT and other alternative exams. Foreign students (except those who have study in Turkey) must take Turkish language certificate from TÖMER. -ALES grade*50%+Graduation Average*20%+Exam/ Interview*30% To take a master´s degree, Candidates´ points are calculated as can be seen in the equation above. After this calculation, Candidates are ranked starting with the highest score, they are taken according to the quota.(Minimum score of 65 must be obtained for a passing grade). For foreign studens: - Graduation Average*50% + Foreign Language*50% After this calculation, Candidates are ranked starting with the highest score, they are taken according to the quota.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To take a master´s degree , it is required that master courses at least 21 or most 28 credits ( 24 credits in master degree in thesis) must be taken and must be completed succesfully. Additionally it is required that graduation average must be at least 70 out of 100 and master thesis must be successfully submitted and approved by a jury.

Master’s of economics aims to improve graduates knowledge level and with the help of this information developing capability of economic analysis and scientific research. Master’s at economics programe is designed in a manner that enable graduates analyze of current economic problems.

1. Being able to improve the basic knowledge acquired in the field of economics to the expertise level and to comprehend interdisciplinary interaction.
2. Being able to evaluate and use the advanced level knowledge on economic theory, political economy and international economics that are required in experts and researchers who are much needed by the public and private sectors.
3. Being able to analyze and resolve the problems encountered in the field of economics by combining the field knowledge with those obtained from other disciplines and to evaluate the findings of such analyses.
4. Being able to use the analytical knowledge in inter-disciplinary studies.
5. Being able to plan, independently carry out and publish studies related to the field of economics.
6. Being able to develop new strategic approaches and generate solutions by taking on responsibility in the practices of economics.
7. Being able to make the critical analysis, synthesis and the evaluation of new and complicated ideas in the field of the economics.
8. Being able to present current developments and own studies concerning the field of economics in oral, written and visual forms to those groups within and outside the world of economics.
9. Being able to use the information and communication technologies at an advanced level together with different software as required by the field of economics.
10. Being able to speak a foreign language and keep up with a foreign literature in the field of economics.
11. By paying regard to social, scientific and ethical values, being able to instruct and supervise these values in studies related to the field of economics.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates of economics can be employed in various areas of private and public sectors. Accordingly graduates are employed in areas such as banking, finance, foreign trade, planning and accounting.

Access to Further Studies
Candidates with a graduate programme can continue their education in post graduate programs (MA and Ph.D.) under the condition that they have acquired sufficiebt scores in ALES and foreign language exams. They also need to pass a written an oral exam.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Each graduate student should register to courses in the beginning of a period and should have attended to at least %70 of the classes. Students enter at least 1 final exam for each course. All exams are evaluated on the 100 points basis.It is obligatory to acquire 70 points to be deemed succesful in a course. A student achieves success from a course if he/she got any of the grade points AA, BA, BB, CB or CC.

Graduation Requirements
Terms of graduation include success in the courses (90-120 ECTS) and successfully submitting a thesis.
