Department of Physical Education and Sports
General Description
Department of Physical Education and Sport Teaching under the body of Faculty of Education continues its education programs to train physical education teachers and coaches within the educational institutions and reforms of Atatürk´s principles and purposes of the Turkish National Education. Our department began operating with 40 students in 1982. Having made great progress within the thirty years of period, our department continues its education with 251 students of bachelor’s degree, 3 students of master degree, 6 faculty members and 12 instructors in Görükle Campus buildings and facilities.
This department offers 240 ECTS credits courses. Graduates who successfully completed the program with established qualifications shall have a bachelor degree in Physical Education and Sport Teaching.

Specific Admission Requirements
Secondary education institutions or equivalency by the Ministry of National Education
graduated from approved foreign secondary education institutions and
admission requirements for undergraduate programs of higher education institutions
to have provided
Higher education programs whose procedures and principles are determined by the Council of Higher Education
programs that accept students through special talent exams
for the central exam conducted by ÖSYM
to have taken and passed the special talent exam.
The Department of Physical Education and Sports accepts students through special aptitude exams organized every year. Candidates are required to take the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS).

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Graduates of the Department of Physical Education and Sports can work as physical education teachers in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, by obtaining a coaching certificate from the relevant federations, in the Education Department and other units of the General Directorate of Youth Sports, as a coach or sports specialist, as a lecturer or research assistant in Physical Education and Sports Programs of Universities.

Our Physical Education and Sports Department; In an environment that will give students the opportunity to reveal, develop and participate in their own potential, equipped with contemporary knowledge, open to innovations, caring about cultural accumulation and communication, developed research and problem solving skills, committed to universal ethical values, at a level that can lead its environment, students and the country needs to provide services related to physical education and sports and to provide services to its stakeholders with an understanding of quality.

The vision of our Physical Education and Sports Department is;
“To be a department that produces knowledge at the international level while realizing qualified education, continuously developing, contributing to national and universal dimensions, being an exemplary example with its graduates and the knowledge it produces, and being proud to be a member”.
The Department of Physical Education and Sport believes that it is not only the definition of mission and vision statements that is important in institutional quality progress, but also their transformation into more concrete educational and research outputs. Furthermore, the Department of Physical Education and Sport is committed to integrating its educational programs into its role in society. This integration will not only lead to continuous evaluation and renewal of its programs but also create an awareness of quality culture among students and staff within the institution.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates of the Department of Physical Education and Sports can work as physical education teachers in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, by obtaining a coaching certificate from the relevant federations, in the Education Department and other units of the General Directorate of Youth Sports, as a coach or sports specialist, as a lecturer or research assistant in Physical Education and Sports Programs of Universities.

Access to Further Studies
Students who have successfully completed their undergraduate education can continue their master´s and doctoral programs, provided that they meet the specified requirements.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Each student must register for the courses at the beginning of the semester and must have attended at least 70% of the theoretical courses and at least 80% of the practical courses in order to take the final exam.
Students are subjected to at least 1 midterm and final exam for each course.
Midterm and final exams are used for measurement and evaluation. The contribution of the midterm exam is 40% and the contribution of the final exam is 60%.
Homework, projects, etc. may also be included in the assessment and evaluation. This situation is clearly stated in the information package in the course bologne and the contribution rate to the evaluation is also indicated.
Letter and/or numeric grades in the evaluation of student success
delivery systems are used.

Graduation Requirements
In order to successfully complete the program, to pass all the courses available in the program (equivalent to 240 ECTS), to obtain a weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00.
