The Department of Civil Engineering at Uludag University was founded according to the decision no. 2695 on Nov 24, 1994 of Higher Education Council. Undergraduate and graduate educations started in 2011-2012 academic year
Those completing successfully all the courses involved in the 4 years of education program with a minimum of 240 ECTS graduate the Bachelors program in Civil Engineering. The graduates work as Civil Engineers
The students are admitted through a general nation-wide exam (LYS) managed by ÖSYM. In the centralized admission the LYS score, the choice of student and the quota of the university are taken into consideration. The students admitted to the Department of Civil Engineering apply to the Department of Student Affairs in order to perform their registrations.
In addition, graduates of vocational schools can continue their educations at undergraduate level provided that they pass an exam (DGS)
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.
All the courses of 240 ECTS value should be completed successfully with a minimum CGPA of 2.0/4.0 and at least 60 workdays of training
The aim of the Civil Engineering Department of Uludag University is to provide its students with the knowledge and skills within the responsibility of their profession and needs of the society. The department with its qualified faculty and improving facilities is decided about fulfilling the following aims:
A graduate of the Civil Engineering Department of Uludag University should:
Possess the knowledge and the principles of civil engineering and its application.
Possess the skills to reach the success in accordance with improving technology, social changes and professional standards in the multidisciplinary environment of 21th century.
Recognize the importance of ethical, social and professional responsibilities of a civil engineer.
Believe in the importance of life-long professional development; and learn to take responsibility in personal and professional development.
Be able to work in projects related to the main elements of civil engineering profession that were gained through the education philosophy and course curriculum.
Consider the human and environment factor in realizing civil engineering applications.

Technical competence in mathematics, science, and civil engineering, and an ability to apply the conceptual and practical knowledge gained in these areas to the field of Civil Engineering.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Civil Engineers are employed in planning, design, construction, management, maintenance, repair and renewal of all kinds of buildings, dams, airports, bridges, roads, channels, pipelines, water treatment stations, tunnels, railways, metros and the like. They can found their own enterprises.
Well educated Civil Engineers are presented with a wide spectrum of job opportunities in public and private sectors. Growing share of Turkish Civil Engineering and construction services in the World construction market increases international job opportunities in parallel with the global economic growth.

Access to Further Studies
Students can continue their education in graduate level provided that they fulfill the following criteria:
A minimum score of 55 from ALES exam. For foreign students GRE score is applicable.
For qualification in foreign language one of the following scores has to be provided:
ÜDS >= 50
KPDS>= 50
UÜDS>= 50
TOFEL IBT>= 50
TOFEL CBT>=130
TOFEL PBT>= 450

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Evaluation is mainly based on the grades obtained from exams during the semester. In addition to the exams the following are considered in the overall grading: attendance to courses and applications, field work, practice, assignments, projects, internships, workshops, seminars, laboratories and similar studies. The impact of the final exam to course success score is 50 %. Within the first two weeks of the semester, the instructor announces the impact rates of midterm exams, homework, lab reports, fieldwork, applications and projects to the final grade of the course.
Relative evaluation system is used in calculation of the final grade. In relative evaluation, arithmetic average of the class and statistical distributions are taken into account. Implementation principles of the relative evaluation system are determined by the Senate.
Letter Grade and Grade Points are determined as in the following:

Other codes used:
a) G: Successful in the non-credit courses,
b) K: Unsuccessful in the non-credit courses,
c) S: Study in Progress
d) M: Successful in the exemption exam of the university,
e) D: Unsuccessful because the students have failed to regularly attend courses
f) E: Missing one or more of the requirements of the course; student is given 15 days at the end of the semester to fulfill the missing exam, assignment, project etc. otherwise the code turns into an FF.
The students with the grades AA, BA, BB, CB, CC, G and M are considered to be successful. Those who have obtained the grade DC or DD from one or several courses are considered to be successful on condition that they complete all the course load of the semester with an average of 2,00 and above. The courses of transferred students from other departments and universities may be given equivalence depending on the decision of the Faculty Board. The transferred courses appear in the transcript but are not included in the GPA calculations.
Academic Average
Assessment of a student is determined by Grade Point Average (GPA) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Weighted grade point is calculated by multiplying the grade point with the course credit.
GPA is calculated by dividing the total amount of weighted grade points of the courses taken in the semester by the total amount of course credits.
CGPA is calculated by dividing the total amount of weighted grade points of all the courses taken by the total amount of course credits.
When calculating academic average, two digits after the decimal point are taken. The number in the second digit is rounded up on condition that the number in the third digit after decimal point is five and above.
Students can optionally repeat DD and DC grade courses to increase their academic average. The last taken grades of these courses are included in the academic average.

Graduation Requirements
The student must successfully complete all courses (equivalent of a total of 240 ECTS) that take place in the four-year education plan. In order to complete all the courses in the program successfully, the student must have obtained at least 2.00/4.00 CGPA. In addition, the completion of 50 workdays of internship is mandatory.
