Educating Intellectual Disabilities
General Description
Even though, The Department of Special Education had opened years ago, due not to find trained personnel at Uludağ University began offering its undergraduate program in the 2010-2011 academic years. The mission of the department is to provide competency based teacher training. Since the teacher training committee of higher education maintained the traditional teacher training perspective, courses in the program organized as Pedagogy, specializing on special education and general information. Courses only specializing on special education, assessment, teaching and applied behavioral analysis would be developed taking into to consideration the competencies of special education teachers. These courses stress competencies which address understanding of handicapped, determining educational needs of handicapped children, adapting school program and developing instructional plans according to the students’ needs. Specific emphasis is going to be given to the student teaching in the classes and schools of the Ministry of National Education.
Candidates graduating from the department qualify for a B.A. degree in Special Education teaching certificate. Graduate of the department will have job opportunities, including academic positions in departments of Special Education; work in the public and private schools of the Ministry of National Education and provide consultancy for the children with learning difficulties.
We encourage our at least third year students to provide special education services under the control of our department staff to the students with disabilities who are in need of special education.
This department offers 240 ECTS credits in the field of Special. Graduates who successfully completed the program with established qualifications shall have a bachelor degree in Special Education.

Specific Admission Requirements
Candidates must have high school diploma and an eligible score from the University Entrance Exam.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To obtain bachelor´s degree in Special Education program the students must successfully complete the required and elective courses (total 240 ECTS) and maintain the minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0/4.0

Profile of The Programme
The programme in education of individuals with intellectual disabilities was established under the department of special education in 2010-2011. The department is currently holds 1 assistant professor, 6 teaching assistant and 1 research assistant .

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates can be employed as special education teachers, directors, planners and advisors in both public and private schools under the Ministry of National Education.

Access to Further Studies
Upon successful completion of undergraduate degree, candidate can study in postgraduate program if s/he has eligible ALES exam score and has sufficient knowledge of a foreign language.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
A variety of assessment methods such as mid-term(s), assignment(s), exercise(s), project(s), practice(s), and a final exam are implemented in the program. Assessment methods may include classical test(s), multiple-choice test(s), homework(s), performance evaluation(s), and product evaluation(s). In order to graduate from the program, cumulative GPA must be minimum 2.00. A course grade is constituted by evaluating the above stated elements and given by using letters. To succeed in a course, students must get at least 40 points from the final exam and have at least 50 points average. Students who get AA, AA, BA, BB, CB and CC are considered successful. DC and DD are notes that conditionally successful. Students have to attend 70% in theoretical, 80% of practical sessions of courses.
