19 Objective of the Course: The aim of the Course is to teach what kind of features a play text has in terms of abstract and form and how to deal with the play text analytically as an artist by evaluating in terms of its writer and period. The course aims to make students get the level to discuss artistic quality of any play. In this context, the texts dealt with were written in modern period and are examined under the title counter-reality.

2 Knowing the feature of symbolism;
3 Analyzing the play ‘The Ghost Sonata’ by Strinbergg in detail.;
4 Analyzing the plays Phelleas and Melisande by Maurice Materlink ;
5 Analyzing the play King Übü by Alfred Jarry in detail.;
6 Knowing the features of expressionism, futurism, Dadaism, Surrealism movements, recognizing plays;
7 Knowing existentialist idea, supporters of this idea and its reflection on theatre.;
8 Analyzing the play ‘ Secret Session’ in detail.;

4 Analyzing the play ‘Ghost Sonata by Strindbergg’: analyzing symbols and ideas in play
5 Analyzing the plays Phelleas and Melisande by Maurice Materlink: episodes, characters, atmosphere, themes, reflections of symbolism.
6 Analyzing the play King Übü by Alfred Jarry: cases, characters, atmosphere, conflicts
7 Analyzing the play King Übü by Alfred Jarry: analysis of symbols and ideas.

11 Reading samples from futurist texts, discussing about the surrealist text Appolinaire ‘Teresias’s Lobes’.
