19 Objective of the Course: Analysis of trends in poetry and distinguished poets’ understanding of poetry through a focus upon the features of selected poems in French literature and developing the skill of using poetry in French Language Teaching

21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To be able to recognise the concept of poetry theoretically and practically, the types and the features of it. ;
2 To be able to analyse the different types of poems of prominent poets representing different literary trends and periods;
3 To be able to create links between different approaches to poetry emerged in different periods of French literature ;
4 To be able to understand the techniques and discourse of verse via the texts of poems in French;
5 To be able to compare classic and modern poetry in French literature;
6 To be able to develop the skills of analysing and interpreting poerty texts and To be able to use those skills;
7 To be able to expand learners’ vocabulary knowledge through poetry analysis ;
8 To be able to develop analytic thinking skills in relation to the culture of poetry in French society;

7 La fuite de temps and Ronsard: Analysis of Quand vous serez bien vieille
8 Poetry in 17th and 18th century: Malherbes and Andrè Chenier
9 Analysis and interpretation of l’Amerique by Andrè Chenier
10 Romantic poetry in the19th century: Lamartine and the features of his lyric poetry
11 Analysis and interpretation of l’Automne by Lamartine
12 Trend of Parnesse in poetry and symbolists
13 Baudelaire and the analysis of Spleen
14 Poetry in the 20th century: Surrealist poets and an example of an analysis of a poem by Guillaume Apolinaire
