19 Objective of the Course: It aims to give student international and national general cinema culture knowledge from its beginning to today by films and its artistic and technological development process.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development To know importance of cinema in terms of visual structure, music, editing, technology and aesthetics
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To obtain cinema culture in contex national and international cinema;
2 To have a vision about relations of art-society, cinema-spectators;
3 To know importance of cinema in terms of scenario, visual structure, music, editing, technology and aesthetics ;
4 To have general konowledge about movements, manifests, cult films at cinema.;
5 To know basic notions and methods in order to analyse films by critical approach;
6 To rising film acting knowledge by national and international sample films.;
7 To know basic knowledge about preproduction and postproduction process.;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Intorduction. Birth of cinema, general review about social, political, economical and artistic atmosphere of period.Formation of moving picture from camera obscura to cinematograph. To watch sample films.
2 Entrance of cinema to Turkey and its rising. Films/periods/Directors
3 Develeopment of cinema at Europe and America, avangard directors and films. Expressionist cinema, Film D’art, to become original art of cinema. Screening a sample film.
4 Industrial rising of cinema: American cinema- Hollywood studio system, D.W. Griffith and others.
5 Screening a film: “Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans” (Yönetmen: F. Wilhelm Murnau, 1927).
6 World War II and sabsequent period- Italian New Realist Cinema
7 Screening a film: “Roma Città Aperta” (Yön. R. Rossellini, 1945)
8 French New Wave, its features, avangard directors and films.
9 Screening a film: “À bout de souffle” (Yön. J. Luc Godard, 1960)
10 Cinema-tv relations; movies in media and media in films
11 Cinema theory and film criticism: Auteur Theory, psychoanalytic theory, feminist film criticism
12 Screening a film: “Citizen Kane”, (Yön. Orson Welles, 1941)
