19 Objective of the Course: This course provides an introduction to the Byzantine history, particularly examining the multiple influences that shaped Eastern history from the fourth to the fifteenth century. Particular emphasis is placed on Christianity, Islam, Turks and Crusades.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development To learn about history of Byzantine Empire which is the one of the longest lasting state of the world. Owing to that, to be equipped historian.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 Examining in an objective point of view of Byzantine history resources;
2 To gain the ability to analyze the main issues of the Christianity and religious doctrines in the Early Byzantine period.;
3 To gain the ability to analyze the political, military and cultural changes during the transition from Rome to Byzantine period.;
4 Be able to reveal the causes of political problems between the Byzantine and Iran- Islamic world.;
5 To gain the ability to explain the impacts of the Byzantine administrative and military system to the Ottoman Empire within the framework of the "Pronoia" and "Thema systems.;
6 Comprehending the impacts of the Crusades on the Byzantine and Islamic Worlds.;
7 Be able to define the basic issues of the Byzantine-Turk (Great Seljuks and Anatolian Seljuks) relations between 11th -13th centuries.;
8 Be able to explain the fall of the Byzantine Empire during the Palaiologian Era in the contexts of the Byzantine-Ottoman relations.;

5 The Byzantine “Dark Ages”: Late Sixth and Seventh Centuries
6 The Isaurian Dynasty and Iconoclasm (711-802)
7 Macedonian Dynasty (867-1025) : War against Muslims and Bulgarian Empire
8 The Komnenian Dynasty (1081-1185) and the Crusades
9 Relations between Byzantine Empire and East: Arabs and Seljuk Turks
10 The Fourth Crusade and the Conquest of Constantinople (1204-1261). Empire of Nicaea and Empire of Trabzon.
11 The Palaiologan dynasty (1259-1453) and the beginnings of decline
12 Ottoman-Byzantine Relations
13 The Decline of the Byzantine Empire and its importance in the Civilization History
