19 Objective of the Course: To understand the importance of art both in individual and social world; recognize the importance of viewing world from different perspectives; to gain insight into the differences between aesthetics and philosophy of art.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development He / she sees the differences between aesthetics and art philosophy, understands the subjective and object dimensions of beauty, and recognizes different types of art.

1 Gain an aesthetical consciosness;
2 Classificate the arts with different criteria;
3 Learn the function of art both in society and in the life of individual;
4 Gain insight into different art conceptions;
5 See the replacement of aesthetic essentialism by anti-essentialism in 20th century;
6 Learn the bases and kinds of art criticism;
7 Gain an aesthetical consciosness;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Definition of aestetics as a branch of philosophy; division of the subject area of aesthetics into three basic fields.
2 Basic concepts of aesthetics: aesthetic object and subject.
3 Aesthetic value; concept of beauty; distinction between natural and artificial beauty.
4 Basic properties of aesthetic judgement.
5 Aesthetic subjectivism/relativism – aesthetic objectivism/absolutism.
6 Classification of arts with different criteria.
7 Introduction to Essentialist art conceptions; Plato’s mimetical view of art.
8 Aristotle’s both mimetical and cathartic art conception.
9 Romantic view of art.
10 Formalist and Expressionist art conceptions.
11 Introduction to anti-essentialist art conceptions; Institutional view of art.
12 Postmodern view of art; historicist art conception.
13 Main currents in art.
14 Art criticism.
